    Alison Krauss

You may have heard "of" her, but not heard her.

Her album, "Forget About It", released on CD in 1999, has been re-released as a hybrid SACD/CD disk. The sonics are excellent, as is the material, which might be described as bluegrass/country influenced pop.

There's a newer album recorded with her long time partners Union Station, "New Favorite". This is less of a crossover album, and more faithful to her roots, though it was released in 2001. It's now available on an SACD/CD hybrid from Rounder records.

Even if you think you don't have any affinity for bluegrass, listen to this. You may find yourself changing your mind. You can sample these from the Rounder site.

Highly recommended. Be there, or be square.

Shop the official store for Rounder Records. Limited Edition Vinyl, CD's, Apparel and Merch.

    Regards,

    Jon

If it wasn't for my fiance I would never of heard of her name. She is an excellent singer. She also sings in the movie sound track of O'Brother.

Other DVDs with Allison Kross - Down from the Mountain (overall rating: 3.5/5) and Appalachian Journey Live in Concert, guest singer(overall rating: 5/5).

Mmmm, maybe if I buy her the SACD she'll buy me a player.........

Damn...I am so pissed. My PCI card is out. So, no sound for me. I hope to fix this soon. However, I'll try to sample it at a record store.

problem with Alison Krauss SACD w/Denon 2900/Rotel 1098
        by daidavel
I just received the Alison Krauss & Union Station Live SACD set from Amazon.com. This is my first SACD, and I don't have others on hand to test with. I'm playing the discs in a Denon 2900 going to the multi-inputs of a Rotel 1098. The problem is the last 2 tracks on each disc stutter and break...

Breaking with modern conventions - a highly musical 2-way system using an 8" woofer
        by theSven
        By Jon Hancock

This article will describe the fruits of my efforts to build a moderate sized speaker which might be moderately above average in performance for a basic two-way system. I desired a speaker like this both for my own use in secondary systems, and to fill a need for some friends, who desired fairly full range response (i.e., “it’s gotta have good bass”). Also, though I have access to a good wood shop, many potential DIY enthusiasts may not, so I hoped to use a modified...

        Just attended "Bearfoot" bluegrass concert
        by Chris D
I went up to Talkeetna, Alaska Sunday night for a bluegrass concert, kind of on a whim. Had heard about this group, which was mostly started in the area and has gone national.

For those who haven't heard me say it here, Alaska has had a record SEVERE winter with record snowfalls and temperatures....
