If you don't already have this, you should

I suppose Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon became tired of sitting around one day and decided to record their own album. It's not like Double Trouble hasn't had their fair share of success. First Stevie Ray Vaughan, then the Arc Angels, and finally Storyville. It seems they have Midas' touch.

Their first CD, Been a Long Time, is an effort to put some of their own creative juices on tape. Being that they didn't have a guitarist or singe, they decided to call a few of their friends:

Doyle Bramhall II, Charlie Sexton, Lou Ann Barton, Eric Johnson, Susan Tedeschi, Malford Millligan, Jonny Lang, Willie Nelson, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Jimmmie Vaughan, Reese Wynans, and Gordie Johnson.

That line-up could easily smoke out the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Induction for months. The talent transcends the sound. My Pioneer Elite CD player is smoking.

The recording is pristine. Vocals dominate the tracks. Doyle, Charlie, Malford, Susan, and Lou Ann. Their croonings bear that soulfull rasp that is so distinctive to the Austin sound. The music is the best that the Austin/blues/funk sound has to offer.

Hey guitar guys, we have you covered. Eric, Doyle, Charlie, Kenny, and Jimmie are some of the best the industry has to offer. Even Willie kicks in a solo of his own. Guitar play is definately towards the blues side.

For me this CD was a Christmas wish come true. If you didn't already notice, 6 of the tracks are Arc Angels/Storyville reunions. The effect is electrying. This is no greatest hits album. Despite a couple covers, the rest of the tunes are quality original work.

I only pray Chris and Tommy get together with their friends more often.

Could you turn it up just a bit Ken, I can't quite here the background music for the vocals. Looks interesting!

Interesting recommendation, Ken. If I can get away from work this weekend, I'll pick it up.

      Regards,

      Jon

Ken, I just picked this up today.
From what I have scanned through so far, I like it! I will get to listen to the whole thing tommorrow at work.
        Thanks for the heads up!
