    A SUB BUSTER!!!

Let me start by giving you my musical back ground. I started listening to music at the age of 11, that's when I got my first stereo, we used to go to CBS's pressing plant every saturday and buy LP's for a buck each, I started with "the Ventures", the Beatles, David Clark five, etc, in my teens it was the 70's, I never listened to radio, none of my friends did, we were into Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, Led Zep, you know these bands, I played a 66 Fender Mustang at this time (still own the guitar) the 80's stank, I don't have much music from that time, but I did work for a friend in the professional sound and lighting bizz, I've run the sound board for the Tubes, Robin Trower (a hero of mine) Mega Deth, and others.
The 90's have been great! I listen to most anything, and have an 18 year old daughter that helps in that area.
So, on to the sub bust, ever hear of a band called "Soul Coughing", the CD is titled "El Oso".
Very different sounding, not your normal rock sound, quirkie is all that comes to mind, their very hard to discribe.
Take a listen to "misinformed" or "st. louise is listening", the bass it well defined, and runs down to around 25hz. (a guess)
Throughout the disc the bass is deep and heavy, but not at the expense of a balanced sound.

I know what kind of crazies you are!!! But as you probably know, to find bass that goes down to 20 or 25hz in a real music senerio is not that common.

          Sorry Kenny

I think we took the title of your thread in a different light than you had intended.

You are certainly correct, about the lack of bass in "normal" recordings. IF my "rocked-out" brain remembers correctally, the low "E" string on a bass guitar is 40Hz or so. That means anything below that, is coming from a 6 or 8 string bass or someone using synth.

Yea, I know what you mean...
When you have a capable sub you just kinda take what you can find, and if it is low then you will know it but most others won't.
I guess it also depends on your definition of "music". :B

I wouldn't exactly call what you hear booming down the road "music" but it is fun to show off your sub to JSP.

Naaa, I probably didn't word the original post right, it doesn't matter...a sub buster is asub buster!!! As Thomas points out, real instruments just don't go that low. (unless it's a pipe organ)
I suppose a real sub buster would be one of those new fangled Bass-O-Rama discs! :W

I have an album by the Flower Kings called "Scanning the Greenhouse". It has one track on it that is mostly pipe organ, with some very low notes which are very prominent. I actually pulled down some shareware which included a frequency analyzer, and darned if that note didn't measure 32 honest hertz.

Cracks are starting to form in my foundation.

I am considering Paradigm (Seismic 12 or Servo 15 v2) and SVS subs (single Plus/2, Ultra/2 or dual CS Ultras or PC Ultras), or may be I should just stick with what I have. I get 20% off Paradigm from my dealer and we all know...

                  Hi all,

I'm a complete noob to speaker design/building, but it's something I've been looking at for a long time and would like to learn more about.

For a first project, I'd like to build a sub of some description. Unfortunately, both space and budget are pretty big considerations,...
