    DACs

I am looking at improving my 2 channel sound and have been looking at getting an external DAC. Budgets are limited so I'll likely be looking at finding a used MSB Link DAC I or II. I have Maggie 1.4's as mains and am using my Sony mega changer as a transport feeding my Denon 3300's DACs and have a HK 5 channel amp powering the mains. I know the Denon has decent DACs already with 24 bit 96 khz capability so my real question is will one of the older MSB DACs be an improvement over the Denon's DACs and if so how much? Of course its all subjective but I'm curious as to your thoughts. I will likely jump on Doug's Silver Cats as well which isn't going to hurt. I'm currently using some very decent IXOS cables from my Denon to the HK amp and have 11 guage IXOS cables running to each of the front 3 speakers.

I too have been wondering the same thing? I have read that a good 20 even 16 bit DAC can surpass the sound of a given 24/96 (level of quality being a factor of course).

I like the 24/96 DAC's in my Pioneer but have been curious to try a lower bit of higher quailty. Hoping that I will experience the wonderous sound of the infamous "Knapp Theater"

Another option I have is to upgrade the amps I'm using for my mains. I'm currently feeding them for two of the channels on the HK 5800 5 channel power amp. That is giving them over 110 watts according to the spec sheet but Sound and Visson found that the actual power is more like 150 when only three channels are being used. So I'm wondering which is the weaker link in my system the amps or the DACs? I do plan on adding at least one monoblock to power the sub but that could remian on the HK if I got a 2 channel amp (or two mono's) for the mains.

              External DACs?
              by John Beavers
I've been toying with the idea of getting an external DAC. The issue is, my CD player had one of the best rated DACs of the internal variety when I bought it 2 years ago. It's a CalAudio CL-5. I'm wondering what type of improvement or change in the sound would result with the...

              Hi there,

I'm currently using something like this

I'm using four channels of the Sunfire to biamp the Vandersteens, and using the Outlaw's DACs when listening to a digital...

The Calliope uses the DA25TX; we've used that in several designs. It's a real bargain in the performance/cost ratio; it's drawbacks are mainly the large size and flimsy front plate- I've actually dissembled these on occasion and epoxied two front plates together and re-assembled the tweeter with one...

So I'm upgrading my system components and getting rid of my Teac AG-H550 in favor of MSB Gold Link DAC, MSB Digital Director, and MSB MVC-1 (multi-volume control). Currently I have a Rotel RB-1070 powering a pair of B&W 603 s3 with my old pair of 602 s2 powered by the teac for rears.
