    Driver Tubes: Help Me Decide

Hi. I wanted to grab a pair of 6SL7 river tubes for my Cary SLA70A Signature amp. I'm currently using a used/tests strong pair of Sylvania VT 229's from the 40's. These tubes are outstanding but slightly forward although I'm willing to buy another pair they are that good. So my narrowed down choices are as folows:

    Tesla ECC35 from the 70's- $120 a matched pair.
    Tung Sol 6SU7GTY- $95 a matched pair.
    Sylvania VT 229- $65 a matched pair.

If you have any experience with these tubes as a driver in a power amp, please let me know your thought. Thanks.

There just are not a lot tube heads here, Armand.

I only have experience with low power pre amp tubes, so I can’t offer any assistance.

You might try the guys at Audio Asylum.

Jim McShane (search google for him) - Great seller and very knowledgeable
Tube World - Brendan is also good to deal with

Others that people seem to like dealing with:

        Tube Depot
        Tube Store

Personally, I like the sound of the Sophia 6sL7 tubes and the RCA 5691 Red Bases.

            Bob,
What are the particular characteristics about theses tubes that impress you?
HF or LF extension, detail or warmth, etc.

Ok, here's my attempt at a review of my recently-upgraded "Cubicle Audio System", featuring the ASL MG Head OTL tube headphone amp, especially designed to fill my head with great sounding music while I slave away at my PC at work!

Before I get into the details of my new gear,...

B&W N800 with Powerful Cayin Tubes?
              by grefyn
              Dear All,
I have a local dealer offering a nice price a pair of Cayin 800mk second hand, which are tubes, but rated at 150w at 8 ohm.
I am tempted but I know B&W in general swing a lot in terms of impedance.
However, these amplifiers are quite unusually powerful for affordable...

              Cables for 804S + tubes?
              by Horacio
I'm starting my search into speaker cables for my 804S driven by McIntosh MC275 and would very much appreciate members' insight into what has work for them.

We all know these threads weren't allowed until now, and this is sort of an experiment, so let's behave! :T

              Hi guys

These are a pair of single ended monoblocks that have 845`s on them. They are 32 watts each and while I`ve only had them for 2 weeks now, I have fallen inlove with them.

They power my Open baffles that are a mixture of »Electrovoice drivers and Supravox. The...
