    Audio Sources

Bad habit of many thoughts at once for feedback.

Curious what people around here use for sources. For instance, some higher end prepro's provide better dac's and allow for multipurpose transport. Others have dedicated cd players. Myself, very intrigued with using computer for digital source and getting killer dac someday. Haven't broke down to buy one of the giant killer cd players like music hall, rega or rotel's 1070. Would like to just reencode (did majority before with 256bit couple years back) cd collection using monkey audio. Someday the computer driven media center will become cheaper and easier yet. Wish itunes allowed download of lossless versions (albeit 10-30 mb a song).

ANyways... would like people's oppinion on sources for music.

Given your investment to date with the PC work I'd seriously look at the Benchmark Dac as its a great DAC to mate up with a computer.

So I keep hearing people talk about DACs, given my background I generally know what they are... Digital to Analog Converters. I deal with them on a daily basis in my line of work. But my question is more on the audiphile side of things. I see people hooking them up to their computers, CD players,...

From my point of view my current "preamp" is my av8801. I feed into it by using hdmi from my computer and it delivers the signals by balanced output connectors to the power amp.
When it comes to HDMI vs coax my experience so far is that hdmi is a dream when it comes to handle all kind...

      Computer music to your system.

Ok another craze is using a computer as your source in your HT or 2ch system.
There are many ways to get this done. I'd like to focus on music and wanted to know what everyone was using.

My idea right now is using a Mac Mini with a 7200hd or a solid state , using itunes with...

I haven't heard one of these yet, but from following Chris's reviews for a few years and one conversation at RMAF, I think I have some feel for how he listens and what he values. In that context, this review at Computer Audiophile is quite interesting- interesting enough that I think I'll have to run...
