    New Equipment Rack

I finally got around to replacing the old "Pine Factory", remember them? library table that I have been using for an equipment rack, to something a little nicer to go with the Modula MTM's that I built a while back. I had run across some pictures of the Harmonic Resolution Systems MR1 Rack that I really liked, here are some pictures, http://www.audiofederation.com/deale...lery/index.htm. I did NOT however, like the $9000 starting price that went along with it, so I figured I'd try my own version. Here are some pictures of what I came up with.

    First the old ......

Though I'm sure it may not work as well as the real deal, it gave me the look I was after and saved me a whole lot of money that I did not have and I learned a lot during the build process. I'll post a few more pictures of things going together in another post.

Thanks for the comments guys ......

John, the spikes are custom made, as is all the metal work. I suspect with the equipment and the rack itself, this thing is over 400 lbs. Anything that I saw online that I liked would not handle the weight. I have some great machinists that I work with that were gracious with their time and helped me with the metal machining. The guy that did the spikes only took about 3 hours to make these out of some scrap stainless steel once I gave him a drawing. I had them put in an o-ring grove for vibration, not sure if it helps.

I do have some construction pics, a lot actually. If I ever need to make another one of these it's easier than relying on the fading memory. I'll select a few and post them.

That should give the readers digest of what the process was.

Thanks, I was mostly wondering about the sides and those pics made it pretty clear! Fantastic build really! Soon I may have space for a 2 channel system and will likely have to build something like this! It certainly gives me inspiration.

                                      Looks like an SYP workbench.

Thanks again for the comments .... yep the workbench is SYP and a little ash as well, French Roubo style. It was a spring/summer project last year, I needed something that would not move around on me using hand tools ..... with a 4" thick top, it doesn't. Here are couple of pictures.

Yes, SYP benches are very cost effective and pretty dang good quality I hope to be building up a shop soon as we should be moving into a house! I have to decide where I want to put it though..... there is a 20x24 shed in the backyard, and then there is the 2 car garage....

                                            Hey steve!

First of all congratulations on all your work!! You have amazing woodworking skills!!

I was wondering, would you mind showing us how u built those pedestals for the speakers? I'm about to build some but loved the design of yours! If you don't mind I would like to build myself a pair like yours!

                                            Thanks!

                                            Dri!

Thank you so much for the pictures! It has to be one of the best looking stands i have seen! What kind of wood is the dark wood and what is the finish on the plywood and dark wood in the tower?

If i make something that comes out looking half as good as these im already happy!!

Sorry it took a few days to get back to you .... The dark wood is Padauk and the plywood is Baltic Birch. The finish is General Finishes, Gel Topcoat, wipe on urethane, satin. I used General Finishes Arm-R-Seal, Oil & Urethane Topcoat, semi-gloss on the equipment rack and found that easier to work with and think the finish came out better than on the speakers. I'm sure there may be better ways to go, finishing is not one of my strong suits, though I'm learning, the hard way sometimes, with each project. If your interested here is the original link for the speakers that might give you some more information.
