Thanks for your comments. Your pictures show the process quite well. How did your project turn out?

Regarding those AWSM 140 waveguides I've used them but didn't like much. They work ok if crossed over at 1800 Hz or above though. Here you can find the measurements by a fellow countryman:

These pages are written in English, follow the link "Wave guides & horns". There are also measurements for the WG-300 waveguide mated with several tweeters. Current trend in Finland is to use the 18Sound XT1086 waveguide with a compression driver like some of the 18Sound or BMS. Look at the graphs, not much equalization needed. Works well with large midwoofer (from 8" to 15" if you use a selected paper cone pro driver).

Now, this is the kind of commitment to Laminated Bamboo I love to see! I don't even know where to get sheets like that where I live in Northern CA, but have been thinking about it. Where did you source them from? A bamboo flooring outfit? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Also, kudos' on the waveguide efforts. :T I'm back at work in that area again- working on main baffles today.

check out specialty hardwood stores and look for bamboo countertops. I can source a few different styles. Depending on style they come in different sizes.

www.crosscuthardwoods.com (I have zero affiliation with them other than I buy a fair amount of materials from them) in Portland carries it, not cheap but not outrageous either.

Well...I purchased it from a place a lot closer to you than me :W I got it here in Seattle, WA. Mine is the 1" VG carbonized. It was two 4'x8' sheets, had them cut it in half and delivered to my house in Austin, TX. Turned out it was cheaper than from a place in Houston. Each sheet was about $200 and shipping was another $200 for a total of ~$600. Now I'm too busy at work to think much about my project...I have all the components just need the motivation and time. Good luck, Scott. Btw, they were a pleasure to do business with, they will send samples also.

Thanks for the sources and links, guys! Believe me, I know all out the "I have all the components just need the motivation and time" routine- (though motivation usually isn't my problem- just free time!) In fact, just be advised, I own the movie rights to that phrase/concept, also!

Interesting. Was the place in Houston the Plyboo distributor, by any chance? I haven't priced them in a while, but it's surprising to me that you can't get that shipped to you from Houston for less than from Seattle.

Yes, I believe it was. I think the Plyboo brand by Smith and Fong is more expensive, shipping may have been a little less but overall the price was higher. I got samples from both and the quality seemed about equal.

                        • Relying on high strength material to optimize performance per volume/width of material (example: cut front panel depth from 4" to 3" using LBL Ply)
                        • Classic Avalon bracing technique- cross pattern reinforcing front to back and side to side for less than 6" unsupported span on panels
                        • HDF laminated to LBL ply for maching purposes in selected areas so that grooves cut for assembly positioning will not reduce fundamental material strength
                        • Brace cutouts in circles with roundover for turbulence control (or esthetics- hidden!)
                        • No veneeringā€¦ use natural LBL for surface, with filler prep and wipe on finish

It's for an Isis like build, and this time I'm focusing on trying to simplify the construction and finishing process as well....

Design model is nearly complete, should be posted this weekend; basic cutting to raw size is done, as the photo above shows. Expect to start some gluing for panel lamination this weekend, and detail cutting weekend after this coming.

Oops! Brain Fahrt time! Weekend after next I'm flying to Munich on business- early Saturday- no woodworking for me!

Cool, thanks I look forward to the Isis type build.

I also choose Bamboo to optimize and simplify the build. Another was to minimize the use of MDF.

                            Dear Jon,
one question regarding the waveguide: Somewhere you said, the Jantzen waveguide could be used as a replacement for the MCM-waveguide. There are two different waveguides from Jantzen (for Audax and Seas), both with a bigger inner diameter than the MCM. Can they be used without any modification?
                            Regards, Axel

The inner throat on the MCM was set up for a threaded adapter, which was too small- and the MCM had to be milled out on the backside to open up the throat to a planar size with a usable throat opening. I checked this in detail once, but there's been so much water under the bridge since then with other projects that my recollection isn't firm= it also depends on how you may chose to modify the mounting for the tweeter as some of the other posters/builders since then have come up with some good ideas. (my set was given to my daughter's oldest aunt on her mom's side for their living room).

I'll check that out and get back to you- I'm still buried a bit catching up from after my trip way down under and some medical stuff right after I got back. The Jantzen waveguides I bought were for the Addax- I'd have to see what the dimensions look like on the Seas version. The basic dimensions seem quite similar, but the Seas version has some mounting holes, threaded for the T35- it seems to be an optical illusion that the picture of the T35 version looks like the back surface is slightly curved or conical.

The link at the first post doesn't work anymore because Apple changed how iCloud works a few years ago.

This link to a public drop box folder should be able to download the PDF.

I tested it and it works for me.

                                          Hi
Got this info from Ergo, reposting it here as it seems to be relevant as the old links no longer works:

For Modula MT mkII I copied the original pdf here

I've done two iterations of it
