Dallas DIY meeting? Updated info adding list of attendees and speakers

has it ever been discussed to do a DIY meeting in the Dallas Area? would like to meet some of you guys and check out some builds. have I mentioned this hobby is very addictive and you get to "hear" your results so you know how well you did.

Here is the list of people and speakers who have cofirmed they are coming, i will update this as more people confirm they are coming and what they are bringing...

Txgrizzly - RS150MT's and Tritrix MTM ported
Savage - BAMTM's
James - Tentative and bringing Nat P's and Classix
Curly - attending but not bringing speakers
Bemis +1 - attending but not bringing speakers
DannyT - Alu 3 way WWWWMTM - wow, lots of W's in that name...
Smallchange - attending but not bringing speakers
NateTTT - Statements and possibly a MAL-X
Nathan O'neal - attending but not bringing speakers
ATM - attending and bringing a speaker A - B switch

I don't have any systems to contribute but I'd love to meet some folks and 'demo' their handiwork. I also have a couple friends that would be interested, even though tthey aren't active forum members.

There will be a DYI meet in DFW on 8/22 (the date is not set in stone yet). I have not personally meet these guys yet but they are very helpful and knowledgeable. Let me ask the guy that will host this event about including you into the email list.

There's an industry guy with plants in China that brought items to a meet in Austin, but the crowd was not objective - a group of "fan boys" who were there to praise the guy. No comparisons with other brands at all. His initials are M.S. That's probably not who Mark is referring to, but I'm just saying that such things can transpire.

I don't mind at all if people in the biz attend meets and talk about/demo their products, IF such meets are definitely organized and attended by objective folks. I attended one here in Austin hosted by a guy who makes and sells exotic interconnects, but he talked very little about his products and the whole event was about listening to various DIY speakers and amps. Entertaining and enlightening.

I wouldn't mind attending. I have the Statements, Mini Statements, Statements Center, and 2 Sealed Mal-Xs, but unfortunately my theater room is very small so I can't really host anything. These things weigh a ton so if I was to take them somewhere I would need to borrow a friend and truck.

i have been wanting to hear the statements series. if we cant get the meeting going maybe you would be willing to audition them for me. i have now built a set of the RS150 MT (no BSC) for surround duty and i am getting ready to fire up my new 5' SONOSUB for the 1st time tonight...i am going to build a dedicated HT and decided to build my speakers 1st while i try to sell the dining room table and prep the room. i am hoping to have something set up by the time Superbowl comes around...

you don't need to bring your receiver unless you want to show/demo it The Host should have all the electronics for you to demo your speakers.

I am in as well, +1 for my buddy. We'll bring beer, but have no speakers to bring....yet. Maybe next year when I finally finish my ZDT3.5's.....

I just saw this thread. I am planning to join. I won't be able to bring my speakers but count me in on pizza and beer. If someone needs help hauling speakers, I am traveling from Burleson and should have extra room in the car/truck.

UPDATE: I talked with Paul

All,
I talked with Paul and we are going to get together to finalize some things but he is looking forward to the get together. Here is what I know so far.

1. He can support a large # of people so the ones that have been posting on here shouldn’t be a problem.
2. He has all the gear to drive the speakers and said to just bring the CD's you want to listen to so you can compare the speakers with known tracks
3. Paul and some of his friends also build AMP's so we will get to hear some of their creations as well.
4. BYOB on your drinks and we will take up a small collection for Pizza.

The address and date listed in Danny's response is still good.

Put me down as "tentative". I'm pretty sure I can make it, but I may have flag football.

I'll bring my Nat P's and Classix.

Also, this is slightly OT, but I'm considering selling an enclosure built for the Shiva-X subwoofer. It's the 6.35 CF version from the DIYCable web site w/2 4" precision ports. Double walled with 3/4" MDF and Oak Veneered Ply all the way around. It's "too big" and the wife won't let me keep it! PM if interested.
