    css el3 kit

So, under the tree this year was a box from CSS. My fiance has heard me talking about a new set of speakers for a while, and picked up the kits for Christmas.

It's going to be a little while before they get built, as we've just purchased our first house and the workbench isn't built yet... but I've got some questions about building a 5.1 with these as the fronts and a center.

The kit is comprised of the following drivers per speaker:
    - 2 WR125S XBL^2 mid woofers
    - 1 Hi Vi SS 1 II tweeters

I'm not sure if I should post the components used in the crossovers or not, but I'm going to assume it's not going to be nearly efficient if I build a 3rd to use it as a horizontal center.

I'd like some feedback on this idea. I need a center chanel, and since CSS is local to me (they're about 15min away), I'd love to use speakers readily availible to me here.

Alternatively, I could build something using a pair of the FR125S and no crossover.

    Thoughts? Recomendations?

Pics and details to follow, as time permits.

    Efficiency doesn't change.

Off-axis response is where horizontally placed MTM's have their problems. The higher the crossover point, the more the problems. Largely, it'll end up where you just can't really understand speech and will feel like you have to keep turning it up.

        Right parts, wrong carpet :

I've emailed Bob at CSS, and he's told me that there are guys using a 3rd as a center, and he's assumed they've put it on it's side.

I'm going to be building a few of these (for my Dad and Brother), so I should have a chance to test it out. He's not planning to prepare a center channel crossover otherwise.

How significant a change would be required for your typical MTM to work horizontally?

Build them, lay one on it's side to see how it sounds off axis. If the off axis performance doesn't bother you, build one for your center.
