    Dayton Center Channel

I just got through putting together a Dayton center channel and am looking at doing some tweaking. I don't have any measuring equipment except a DB meter and a digital volt meter.

    Setup is as follows:
Cabinet is 1cu ft tuned to 40hz
    2 Dayton woofer 6.5" 295-305
    1 Dayton tweeter 1 1/8 295-070

Crossover is a series design at 3200hz, 12uf across the woofer and .20mh across the tweeter. A zobel using a 47uf cap and a 4ohm resistor is wired across the woofer.

Are there any inexpensive ideas for increasing performance without spending a lot of cash?

One must look at the cost/benefit ratio of the investment...

The FR of the woofer looks like an earthquake plot starting at 700Hz. Having it operate to 3.2kHz with a 1 st order series network means the SQ between 700Hz and 3.2kHz is going to be very problematic.

This isn't something that can be 'fixed' with a crossover upgrade..

      Ideas...

Build zaph's BAMTM, that'd be relatively cheap, and could possibly use the box you already built. Here's a link: http://zaphaudio.com/BAMTM.html

Another idea- replace the woofers and/or lower the crossover point. Thomas has a good point about the woofer- it's not such a great one, with its ragged response and poor distortion.
