Yup, I don't get the new Seas tweeters either. 29mm domes but 26mm voice coils. More efficient but only if you cross above 3K. Who in the heck is going to cross a 29mm dome at 3K and pay the off-axis penalty? And $260 for the Crescendo? Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

I bet that crazy peak in FR on the T29AF-001 is where the horn unloads. It looks to me if you just put a first order lowpass at about 8.5k you would end up with a 2nd order acoustic at about 2k. That jives with the recommended frequency range of 2-22k and the specified 92dB sensitivity. There are a decent number of commercial designs that would fit into. Seas is probably filling a market demand.

One more post on this (off) topic. What do you think the odds are that Seas will release chambered versions of the budget wide surround tweeters? Does anybody remember if the last time Seas released a batch of tweeters they came out with all the variations at the same time (chambered, non-chambered, fero, non-fero, etc.)?

Speaking of North Creek, anyone tested or measured this NC-tweeter?

Seems a bargain with frequency response straight down to 1,5 khz and a xmax of 1mm (both ways). All this at $36 per pair! 8O

Even if they're not high end they have to be a bargain...or?

I've got a pair of D28's which we've tested, but I've never looked at this guy- the price is certainly right, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a leader that price point. The Fs is a bit higher than I prefer in tweeters.

I've been working on a loudspeaker for some time - few months actually because of lack of spare time. Things are near completion. I can not yet disclose all the details (drivers used and crossover schematic) because there is a possibility it becomes a commercially available product. Initial assessment...

Foil Coils or plain ole wire?
              by JonMarsh
One of the recurring questions that seems to be of interest to speaker builders is the matter of copper foil coils- does it make a difference, and is it worth the cost?

Well, first off, I'll be the first one to say, "Well, try it, listen to them in your own projects....see what you...

A few questions regarding the use of caps
              by Matt M
              Hallo,

A few questions on the topic of capacitors that have accumulated over time:

              1. I have a self-designed speaker that I have been happy with for long enough a time to consider doing a premium-parts cross-over for it. Currently the crossover requires two 4.7uF per side...

Replacing p.s. caps in older amps
              by whoaru99
Since I've read that usually it's capacitors that go bad in older amps, I've been contemplating replacing them in my mid-80's Yamahas as preventative maintenance.

As of now, there are no signs of impending failure that I can see. No leakage, no swelling, no discoloration, etc. So, this...

Why so much hype over caps?
              by Heavy-D
Let's start from the beginning. I noticed the highs from my speakers were not as crisp as they used to be, so I started asking questions and found out electrolytic caps were used and can degrade over time. It was suggested they be replaced with polypropylene caps. Started looking for replacement caps...
