    Chamfer/air flow and stuffing query:

    Hello all,

I've lined a speaker box with deadening material and about to apply dampening material. I'm using 200gsm Dacron. I've had good results with this in my first speaker, and decided to use it again.

My baffle is 1" thick but rather narrow (external width: 7.5"). The inside of the baffle is too narrow to chamfer with my router.

Does anyone have experience with applying dampening material in this situation? Does Dacron impede airflow? Initially I had planned to line all panels. Perhaps I keep the SIDE panels near this area totally clear?

Here's a picture of the situation:

    thanks,
    Thanh

You can still chamfer above and below the driver.

The baffle is already glued to the side panels. How can I chamfer internally using a router?

I suggest a Dremel rotary tool with a wood carving bit. I've used one of these with the extender cable, and they are very handy. The MDF dust will be horrible, a dust mask would be mandatory.

They do look like a sweet project - what do you plan for the bottom chamber?

In this situation, I use a dado bit. I let the shaft be the guide around the outer circle.
Dado bits have a nice 45 degree angle on them.

            Hello,

            Thanks for your replies.

Unfortunately I don't have those tools so I decided against the chamfer. In future I will definitely do this for woofers with relatively large magnets.

In the end I decided to dampen this way:
