    In-ceiling speaker placement

Hi all, nothing to intense here, just finishing up my dual-purpose office/hang out room and am looking at putting in a pair if Definitive Technology UIWBP/A speakers for rear-channel/music listening. The front will be (flamesuit on) my old Bose Accoustimass cubes from years ago, gotta save money somewhere and I'm already into my distributed A/V wiring for around $2500.

The main question is, whats the best placement for these rear speakers, looking more for some sort of formula I can use in their placement or, failing that, some general advice. My current plan is to put them about 2 feet off each wall in the corners.

The speakers will be in these two corners:

TV will be near where the photo was taken from so you can get an idea of the setup. Not looking for perfection, I just want to avoid any major pitfalls. I know its not the best orientation but this room is primarily an office that we will watch movies in, hang out etc.

    Thanks folks!

Also, pics of my A/V distro wiring at:

John, lacking better information, I'd go with placement like that of standard surrounds (somewhat similar to what you are looking at). Specifically, 2 feet of clearance from the back wall and at least that from the side walls. You won't get the best soundstage from recessed units (wall or ceiling), but like you said, it's "primarily an office". Hopefully your speakers have steerable tweeters...?

What have you found to be the best place for a pair of Sonotube subwoofers in reguard to sound quality? I put my 20" by 5 foot (excluding end caps) in the front corners. I find that when I am standing, that there is more bass...the kind of bass I would desire in the listening chair.

I was wondering what my options are for placement of the Ruby. What I would like to do is buy a rack, table or something of the sort that will allow me not have to hang it from my ceiling and diminish installation costs.

I do have drop ceiling boards, I'll post a pic below so people...

This is the only forum I really post to here so I am putting this thread here. Mods if there is a better place for this thread, please move it there. Also I figure it might qualify as DIY since all my gear is DIY.

Anyways, I just cleared out one of the spare bedrooms at our house and...

      Speaker placement

I am trying to decide between a 6.1 and a 7.1 speaker set up in my new room. I have the amplification and speakers to do either so that's not the issue...what is the issue is speaker placement for both set ups. I have a door on my back wall which is right in the way if I were to set up two rear speakers...

I sometimes wonder if we aren't all spending way to much effort choosing our gear based on how it sounds in our rooms vs fixing our rooms to give us more accurate sound from the gear we already have. For example suppose we go out and buy a speaker that has a very nice flat frequency response only to...
