    OverClocking Stabalizes the PC??

    Hi!

I found it very strange that my Computer is much more stable than ever after OverClocking it.
My AMD XP2500+ would previously restart at least 3-4 times per week.
I recently overclocked it to XP2800+ status by increasing the multiplier to maximum and the VCore to 1.70.
Anyways, Since doing this approximately 3 weeks ago , I have experienced only 1 restart.
BTW,,She stays on 24/7 and crunches Seti units..

I just found that odd, but won't complain!

Congrats on your OC. I've been addicted since I built my last system....

What do you mean by restart? Increasing you voltage helped stablizing your cpu. Have you tried running Prime95 to determine you system stability? System reboots can be from overheating or power supply. Also download Mother Board Monitor, MBM. Good to know your system temps and voltage.

Let me know if I can help. I try to keep on top this stuff now and I get a lot of information from http://www.amdforums.com

      Trevor,

Just one word of caution, overclocking can overheat your chip.

      Regards,

Its likely the increased voltage that did the trick. So long as you're not over heating the chip it should be fine...yes it won't last as long as if you were running it at a lower voltage but who cares you'll have long since upgraded before that should be an issue

          Heh!
That's right Andrew!! These processors are disposable..
Fry it, Re-buy it. They are so cheap to replace or even upgrade right now.

What do you mean by restart?
Eduardo, the computer would just shut-down on it's own then start up.
The same process of restarting the computer from the START TAB, only it was Automatic and frequent.

My CPU temp is 45C /113F
The MB temp is 23C /73F
The status shows as OK with these Temps

Mmm, you may want to double check with Bing but still sounds like a heating issue. Other ideas would be to check you power supply and run MEMTest and check your memory.

Well since we're talking about OCing, I ordered a, Artic Silver Ceramique, Thermalright SLK-900A and a 92MM fan. Planning to push me chip.

              Eduardo,,You may have misunderstood me.
My computer would restart frequently prioir to O/C..
Now that I have O/C'd..I don't have the restart problem.

Curious as to what your temps are?

Ok - I thought you said it was still doing it just not as frequently.

My system is at stock performance. 166 X 11 = 1.8 Ghtz. My CPU is volted at 1.65v. Mobo temp: 21C; CPU temps: Idle - 42C Full Load - 57C. I have pushed my cpu to 200x11 = 2.2 Ghtz. It runs stable with no problem but I don't like the temps; load = 61-63 C.

After I get my new HS & F plus Artic Silver Ceramique, temps should drop 10 - 12C.

Interesting,,Your temps are very high even without O/C
I have 5 fans plus the processor fan , so maybe that's why my temp is lower.

I tried to push the bus speed to 200 x11 but could not run it stable.
Only changing the multiplier and V-core worked for me.
                  Mine's running at 2.08 GHZ

I also use the Arctic Silver cream.

So what is you mulitplier and FSB set to now? From what I read its better to raise the FSB in small increment.

My system only has 3 fans. 1 front Intake, 1 rear exhaust and stock HSF. I want to try to keep my system as quiet as possible but with overclocking.

My multiplier is at 12.5 or whatever the max is.
                        FSB is at 166mhz
I can't increase the FSB in small increments.
                        After 166 is 200.
                        200 is unstable for me.

I think you have the same MoBo as me - Asus A7N8X. I forgot the bios setting but it will allow the FSB to be changed. Just keep running with what you have and you'll be fine.

I just got hooked on OC. There are a few other mods I'm interested in too.

You guys should be able to push thoes 2500's a little higher yet... I got mine running at 2367Mhz perfectly stable also crunching SETI 24/7 Bus speed is at 225x10.5

That's at 1.825 core voltage tho, and a temp of 47C under load with water cooling... oh and some Kingston HyperX ram to run at those memory speeds with CAS2...
                            God I love OC'n

I got my HS+F but Allison dropped the fan broke one of the blades.

I'll be lapping th HS while I'm waiting for a new one.

Jon what MOBO are you using?

I am currently using an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0. I used to have a rev 1.03 board and it would not go any higher than 177 on the FSB stable... it was a dud so I sold it

Good lick with the OC'n, with that HSF you should be able to do pretty good depending on the yield of the CPU of course.

Its written on the board in small print close to the ASUS logo, being November 2002 its prabably a rev 1.0 board, maybe 1.01...

BTW Trev, if you only have the options 100,133,166,200 for bus speeds then you probably have one of the settings in Advanced set to "Optimal" or "Aggressive". All those should be set to manual instead, then you can change the bus speed in 1Mhz increments...
