    Internet Explorer Setting

I'm having an annoying problem with the current version of IE (whatever that version may be). I can't get the status bar (the small bar at the bottom of the window that shows how much of a page is loading...among other things) to stay in place!

Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't...I can't figure it out. I thought that IE would remember by settings but that doesn't necessarily seem to be the case. I tried setting the status bar on and closing the program. When I re-booted I expected to see the status bar. It works sometimes but it's not 100%. I guess it's not set by memory.

I have to manually turn on the status bar by selecting "view-->status bar". Is there some way to make the status bar appear as a default?

[Forgot to add....always export the key before you muck with it so that you can reimport it later if things seem worse]

    regedit

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain

    find the string: Show_StatusBar

    type the value: yes

    save and probably restart.

Thanks, Gordon. Unfortunately, the value was already set to 'yes'. Is there some way IE can bypass the settings in the Registry?

The only mention of anything remotely similar to what you're describing is from the knowledgebase:

        SYMPTOMS
When you open a new instance of Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) by using the keyboard shortcut (CTRL+N) or the New Window command on the File menu, the Status Bar is not displayed in the new browser window.

        WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, click Status Bar on the View menu.

        STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

But even then it's not quite the same problem...I'm stumped :?

Sounds like Microsoft is stumped too! Not a big surprise there.

Thanks for the help. Perhaps a future IE update will correct it.
