Computer game about HT to drive PC adoption? ;-)

Hey guys and gals, what do you think of this?

Is this a new home theater concept for the future? Naw, it's a rendering of the E3 demo booth for Doom III done in the game engine.

What's really funny about this, is that the overall capabilities of this game may drive more upgrades and recovery of the PC business (when it's released) than all the advertising the big guns like IBM, Intel, Dell, etc, will do in the next year..... it will definitely take some parts of the gaming experience to a totally new level....

Actaully, here's what the game looks like- wouldn't want to meet these guys in a dark alley....

Jon, Doom 3 is going to be awesome for sure.

Although Carmak coded it on the New Radeon 9700 (R300) card, by the time it comes out next year, it'll be time for me to upgrade my video card again...

Technology, don't you just love it?

I'm timing my upgrade with Doom3 too. I plan on passing my current machine on to my wife and building a brand new one just for this game (and subsequent games useing it's engine like Quake 4).

I only hope AMD's Hammer CPUs aren't delayed too long!

Yup, I think there will be a lot of upgrades and new builds centered around this game. I'm planning on updating the GeForce three and CPU in my "bedroom" DVD/Gaming rig just for this game- pretty silly, huh, probably $400 - $500 of upgrades for a $55 game. That will trigger a cycle of handme downs to other systems at Casa de Juan.

I suspect it will be worth it- I believe Doom III will define the ultimate image and sound experience in PC released; actually, more like shatter the standard with the bar set to a totally new height. 8O

See, now I'm glad I have a little fun money available from not haveing popped for an Xbox, to help fund this silliness!

        Regards,

        Jon

Jon, based on your toy inventory, I don't think an XBox would make or break your next PC

            Oooooh, guilty as charged.....

            Good advice, Bing.

Did a little upgrade purchase today, while in Portland on business (Intel, Celestica, HP), I picked up a new Geforce 4 card (just a Ti4200 with 500 MHz 64MB DDR) for $149 for my clunky old 1.2 GHz Athlon desktop system; what made it a little sweeter is that there's no sales tax in Oregon...

I think I'm going to have to go there on business more often!

Jon, a Ti4200 is the really gem of the PC card market right now, excellent choice!

I have been wanting to pick one up just because they are such an unbeatable value.

Overclocked T14200's can surpassed the Ti4600 (at stock speeds) 8O Now that's the bang for buck!
