I get a power error when connecting the Creative MP3+ soundcard to any USB port on my Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. Will a powered USB hub fix this problem? I figured I would get a faster response here than with Creative tech support. Thanks ahead of time. Tommy

Probably not, according to Creative it should be able to work on any hub powered or not, so it should run perfectly fine off your laptop (if you are plugging it directly in).
One thing to check is to make sure your bios is up to date (they are at A14 I see)...
Other than that, it's got to be something else.Digital Audio makes me Happy.

Thanks for the response. I flashed the new BIOS and got the same thing. I plugged the card in on my desktop with no problem. All other USB devices work when connected to my laptop, all do not need power. I may pick up a hub from Wally world since you can return anything there.- Bottom

by jim1961I only need 1 port actually since its only job will be to interface and power my WD 2TB Passport hdd drive. But 2 or 4 ports would obviously work fine also.
Basically, i just want to clean up the power arriving at the hdd and lessen noise leaking into the data stream.

by kpodolskiI have a Gateway P-6860FX laptop with an mini-optical out that is connected to my Classe SSP-600 to listen to my MP3 files. This is not for serious listening but I'm wondering if there would be any type of improvement if I purchased an external USB DAC? Nothing expensive; maybe in the $100-300 dollar...-
