    XP home problem

    Hi,

I am unbelievably frustrated about this problem and don't know what to do. I recently upgraded my hdd and clean installed xp home, since then it restarts about 6 times when i first turn it on and then says it is due to a driver. When it is up and running i can restart without the same occurring. I have updated all drivers through device manager and the problem persists. It also says it has recovered the registry from a backup or copy. Any suggestions?

Here is my hijack log if it helps (i'm not too clued up on this)

When you say it restarts, it reboots itself? Are there any errors in the event viewer?

Also, try turning off the automatic restart in error recovery under control panel. This way, if you're getting a blue screen of death, you'll be able to read it.

At ExpertsExchange someone posted the same problem. The solution was to uninstall ZoneAlarm and/or AVG antivirus. Your Hijack log shows you have both!

Well, goodluck deleting zone alarm. I tried I might add unsuccessfully to delete it from my machine, after updating to a newer version and having problems. I finally had to go back and find the old build file and reload the old one. I might could have done it by doing a safe mode deal, but I don't do such very often now, and am not in geek mindset to do such. at the time, I did the easiest thing, and that was reload the stupid thing.

I don't think I will ever load up zone alarm on another PC after that experience.

Any luck Kemp? By the way, there is a newer version of Hijack This available, you should download that and use it.

Thanks guys, The problem turned out to be a faulty ram module. I added it a while back and everything was fine. I think the fact that i installed xp through this module this time around is what created the problem. Luckily it is sorted now. Just in time for my new pc :B
