I have a question or two about wma vs wma lossless encoding. I just set up a new PC. I have a wireless router to use, primarily, for the Squeezebox I just bought.
I ripped a CD just to go thru the process (bit of a newbie here) and noticed that the file extension was .wma. Playing the ripped version thru the Squeezbox was a disappointment (when compared to the CD "directly"). Since wma lossless was an option I set the ripping/encoding to wma lossless. The file extension was still wma (should it be different? how does one know if it has been done lossy or lossless?).
I want to rip my favorite music with a lossless format but I am not convinced I have set up my Media Center 2005 to do lossless correctly. Any help or comments would be appreciated.
