I'm curious what software people are using to organize and play music via their computers and why.
What is the best software for a music server?

I use Media Jukebox from JRiver. It has great add-ins for burning, ripping, and portable mp3 players. I load the music from it to my mp3 player as well. It also has several formats to convert to along with a recording function from the whatever source you are playing. A media editor is also available to edit any file.

I don't think that has to do with the software, but the soundcard that you are using. For example, the Audigy cards convert everything to 48khz. I believe the M-Audio and some of the others will output a 44.1khz signal. I'll have to look into that a bit more...

Gordon and AJ,
Sorry, I think I'm referring to the windows kernel mixer (k-mixer) that gets used with Winamp.
I think that's the reason M-Audio cards can use the ASIO interface (bypassing k-mixer) to keep the signal going to the soundcard in the digital domain at the native 44.1kHz without any conversion to 48kHz and the resulting conversion artifacts.Bruce- Bottom

JRiver Media Center, which is only $5 more than the deluxe version of Media Center, DOES support ASIO playback. Along with a lot of other cool features. Including DVD playback or recording.
I'm going to try this for a media player, as ASIO is the only way to go for CD, even SPDIF.

Cinemars Music Lobby which uses J Rivers MC10 as the front end is a great and easy to use package, however MC10 has some glitches and is fickel. I have screen shots of the interface. Check out post #22
