When will 1080p be available from multiple MFG's?

I have an old CRT Sony XBR32 that does a great job, and I am hesitant to buy any HD capable TV until 1080p is a feature offered by several competing manufacturers.

When is it anticipated that TV manufacturers will be competing with each other on this feature?

I'm not an early adopter, but I'm not a tecnical conservative either. I just don't want to trade up to more than I have to. I still have my laser disc system in my garage.

The next year or two should see 1080p sets coming out but they'll likely be at a pretty premium price for a while and there is no actual 1080p media...

Except for Window Media High Definition movies that are available in 1080p, like Terminator 2!

I'm not sure about the specific res's Chris but I think if you look it up most aren't actually a full 1080p they're a bit lower but yes that is the only source for now.

I thought Intel was introducing LCOS...

An article I read late last year indicated that Intel would introduce an LCOS solution that would make "relatively" affordable 1080P capable rear projection television sets.

I'm waiting for the Sony SXRD 70" RP LCD. News is first of the year..

JVC has shown a 70" 1080p DILA set in Japan. Expect that also in less than a year.

With their 61" set selling at $4K, look for some competition between the two. ALso, Sony is heavily rumored to be releasing a smaller 1080p SXRD set before another year is out also.

It's been infinitely delayed. I sincerely doubt we'll even see a prototype before CES 2006.

Sharp also has 2 LCD's now with 1080P. The 65" Flat Panel LCD and thier 45" Aquous set. They have a specific factory built to build these 1080P native panels. The bad news is the 45" sells for a whopping 8k..

It's already here - JVC Sony and a couple of other for LCOS have been on the market for months, and DLP from several as well if you count wobulated 1080x960.

Westinghouse has 37", 42" and now 47" 1080p LCDs at very reasonable prices. The PQ performance on the 42" is better than any of the other currently available LCD sets I've seen, though I haven't seen the new Samsung 1080p LCDs yet.

A whole bunch of plasma, LCD & DLP companies said they had 1080P sets, but they lied (can you imagine that?) the TV's had 1080 lines but process at considerably less...this is still the case (in most cases) 1080P is talked about and called out in specifications but rarely delivered... still today there is a brand new TV on the market calling it'self 1080P...

yet it hand-shakes at 720P .... !Zoink! :M

That may be the case with some other sets, but the Westinghouse sets do indeed display a full 1920 x 1080 as tested with computer output, 1080p upconverting players (Samsung 960), and blue ray. The Westinghouse HMDI port has a hard time accepting 1080p, but the DVI ports take it just fine.
