    Change that lamp!

I know most members here have moved on from RPTV's to flat panels but if your hanging on like me, you owe it to yourself to NOT hang onto your RPTV bulb for too long........even if it's working.

Like the plasma phenomenon, rear projection TV bulbs lose their intensity over time, affecting picture quality and clarity.

I have the last Sony SXRD RPTV they made (60") and I just changed the bulb yesterday. OMFG what a difference !! It's like a new TV !! I honestly cannot believe the difference in picture quality, brightness and clarity!! :T All I can say is CHANGE THOSE BULBS !! There's even more reason to do it more often now because the price of the bulbs has gone down dramatically. :W

Also, the bulb can explode if it's kept too long past the rated hours, possibly damaging the TV or leaving you with a mess of glass shards to clean up when you do change it.

So far I've avoided the whole bulb thing. I still run a CRT FPTV. Some day when LED tech advances to the point where it's practical for a FPTV I'll upgrade.

Also make sure you get an OEM bulb and not some chinese one. Brother in law got a cheap bulb for the Sony SXRD that I gave to him (55") and it looked like crap afterwards. Generally for the first 100-200 hours the bulb will actually be too bright, and your blacks will be more washed out than normal.

        Sony RPV SXRD lamp issue
        by madmac
        Hey all,

A weird phenomenon has been happening lately with my Sony RPTV (SXRD) lately. When I first turn it on, I get brightness fluctuations for awhile (Brighter then a little darker) and it's very noticeable. After awhile, it seems to stabilize and go away.

        I took the...

        Lamp life experience with PLV-Z1
        by Paul
After just under two years of owning my PLV-Z1, I have gone through two lamps. The first went after about 350 hours. The second one lasted about 420 hours. Almost all but about 20 hours of each bulb was on the low light setting. The projector is in a well ventillated area, is always shut down properly...

When is a DLP projector's lamp toast?
        by Cracking Oboe
I have an older Plus U2-1080 that I have successfully been using in my home theater set-up. It randomly shut down a couple times a few days ago. Today it only runs for 2-3 min and then shuts down.

I checked the hours on the bulb and it’s just a couple of hours over the 1000 hrs expected...

Bad bulb or ballast in PJ?
        by wildfire99
I've got a problem that hopefully someone can help me shed some light on.

I have an NEC HT1000 that's worked flawlessly for a few years now, with less than 400 hours on the lamp (it sat in storage for a while). I pulled it out of storage, and it wouldn't fire the lamp. I pulled the lamp,...
