    Downgraded Video projection system...

I would like to notify members that I downgraded from a Digital projector...to a CRT projector...

SONY HS-10 to a Barco 1209s ..with brand new tubes.....

    Was I wrong?

The only way that's a downgrade is if your top priority was being able to carry your projector around to friend's houses...

Otherwise, you know well the answer to this question....

As you probably well know, there's still little out there to match a good 9" EM focus tube CRT projector, whether it's a Barco, Sony, NEC or whatever...

What are you driving your Barco with?

Uh... 120***9***? Agreed, not a downgrade. I'd do it.

Of course it's not a downgrade. Jon pretty much said it all.

No, as long as you did not pay a lot for it. Scott from VDC told me last year that a good 1080p digital pj will be had for under $2k. His prediction is looking pretty good. If the new JVC comes in next year at half this years price, then it could be difficult to recommend CRT. All that being said, enjoy your pj and realize you should be good for the next couple of years. Being a CRT owner, I agree with what Clarence of AVS said about his G90. He said that he would only move to digital if it is an upgrade not a lateral move.

I sort of got the impression for the *grin* at the end that he was kidding about it being a downgrade.

              Hi guys !

indeed...I have always been wanting to get one of these units....
whle in Japan it wouldn't have been possible to place anywhere.....today I have the room !

I'll throw at it anything that will go through my Faroudja video processor

              most likely at 1080p

and mostly from a denon DVD 5000 and a Pioneer CLD-D704

              =))))

nice upgrade and it will throw a beatiful pic for many years with no bulbs to worry about all at 25K:1 CR, something even the new RS1 can't do. Nice to hear somone here actually got something besides the latest bulb-burner.

To be fair, dragan is sticking up for the RS1 as THE choice in digital projection in an adjacent thread. And this IS a CRT thread.

The Barco 1209 is indeed a dream CRT front projector, like the Electrohome 9500LC, or the Sony G90. 8)

                      Congrats! :T

fraid so george, just couldn't help myself. :B It's not very often we see a new CRT owner on here but isn't it cool people are still re-dsicovering these awesome machines 7+ years since some of them went out of productiond? It's just a nice change from the usual "help, my bulb exploded" posts. :T
I just read in another topic you have a turntable and listen to vinyl like me. I was surprised nad happy to see that even thoguh we don't agree on projection technology much we do have something in common

the Barco's and Electrohomes are easy to set-up. Not as easy as a point and shoot LCD but still pretty straight-forward. Simply follow the built in HELP menu and you will gt there. Now if it was a Sony G70 or NEC XG then you would need to really do some homework or call a tech.
