      hitachi crt the worst
toshiba 720p sets (3-4) beat out xbr sxrds

panasonic is the "clear" choice again on plasmas
with maxent geting fairly high scores beating pioneer!!
even better they actualy recomend the hp plasmas too

jvc is tops for 1080p lcd (you need to pay extra to see the scores on sharp online)
samsung is the "best" 32" 720p

they do like westinghouse and olivia but seem to give them too much credit in performance

overall there scores suggest that plasmas have the worst picture quality

i cannot stress how much impact this stupid magazine has on sales...
      my head hurts

I've had a couple bad experiences with Consumer Reports lately.

              1. You guys may have heard about the baby seat report that they did, where they completely botched their test data and failed several products. Turns out that they tested at the wrong speeds, and many of the seats passed. Not good to bag on a product when you've got your facts wrong.

              2. There's particulars with the way that they rate the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56. The 2004/2005 models had problems with the brakes, and CR rated those systems poor, which dragged down the overall rating. Fine. Nissan acknowledged and repaired the systems through TSB's. The 2006 models had all new brakes, and have no problems. However, Consumer Reports uses historical data, and again rates the 2006 Armada/QX56 low because of this. Matter of fact, they rated the 2007 Infiniti QX56 as having ACTUAL low reliability (not predicted) two months before it ever even showed up in dealer showrooms. Pretty hard to rate something on reliability when it doesn't exist yet. In contrast, CR has consistently been very favorable of Toyota. Toyota has repeatedly denied that problems exist with their Tundra transmissions, won't fix the problem, and CR gives them a top rating. Toyota finally just acknowledged that the flaw does exist, and is being forced to repair all the vehicles, but CR still gives them top ratings.

i bought my used toyota solara based on there recommendations
unknown to me they had documented sludge problems since 02'
needless to say i found it out the hard way

there ratings are not scientific as it relies on voluntary surveying of subscribers items like automobiles- too many variables at play to be scientifically valid, not to say it doesnt help but it doesnt tell the whole story potentially
