does anyone know of a good 1080p set

50 or 60" she wants the 720p pioneer but since she plays video games i cautioned against it, i also recomented 1080p
but they all look bad, the sony xbr2 was horrendouse in terms of contrast
    must be flat pannel

No such thing as yet IMO. The 1080p Pioneer panel is likely your best bet but the contrast is pretty pathetic.

    Always go FP....?

Personally though I'd stick to 720p considering what's currently available.

I saw the new XBR3 LCD 64" today and it looked beautiful...but with the price difference I went with the Panny 50" 720P. I game but for what I have read it appears that after a proper break in burn in has been pretty much eliminated. Just don't leave the same screen paused for a period of time.

I was in the same boat and ended up with the Pioneer 50". Bought it has the
cost was still with in the others and the pic was better, IMO.

I still say you get the 720p Pioneer, in most cases you won't miss the resolution (source, seating distance etc) and the contrast and black levels are FAR superior on the 720p model for an overall better PQ IMO.

espn burnt in on our display, which in itself isnt so bad but a coworker of mine bought the 50" elite version and burnt it in w/ a video game in the first few days
                  multiple white washings did nothing

ive read it on forums too that they burn in easier
entirely aviodable unless you play video games

The newer plasma's its not nearly the issue it was. After the first 100 hours of useage your burn in is next to non-existant...Less than 1%..go to the AVS forum and read up on it they have a whole huge section on burn in.

Now with that said if your going to be gaming more than watch TV I would lean toward an LCD. I would love to game more but reality is my TV will be 90% TV/Movies...

One of the mags gave a Pio Elite a good review, think it was right around $5k tho? Can't think of the model or specific magazine right now.

Shame it has to be flatpanel, the Samsung 1080p DLPs are amazing. So far I have yet to see a better picture on a display (that is anywhere remotely in the price range of the Samsung).

they are second place to sxrd in my mind
but i would never buy them because ive seen problems with the bulbs and the cost $550 a piece

as for the 1080p samsungs i detest them
and personaly wouldnt buy dlp because of reliability issues

Of course this was inevitable after the rear projection DLP 1080p displays were announced. :T But the BIG question will be the FPTV unit pricing.

Does it make a difference in picture quality with 1080p source video on a 720p TV? In other words if you have a 720p TV will 1080p material look like say HD DVD look any better than say 720p HD broadcast or cable TV video or upscaled 480 SD DVD to 720p with an Oppo with a Faroujda (sp?) chip?

Does 1080p make any difference now? i do not see how it can make a difference now because not all the broadcasts are even in full HD yet which is 720p. so there is not even any broadcast that even shows 1080p now and it is probably goin to be a long time cuz comcast right now only has about 20 channels...

I'm moving into a new house in a couple of months, and it has a room that we don't particularly have plans for yet (when I say we, that means my wife has no plans but I do ). I'd like to do a projection system in it, and be able to do "real" 1080p. The primary reason...

A few thoughts and questions. I see many recievers that "upconvert to HDMI" but don't list any specs. Does that mean they send 1080P over the HDMI, or could it be something else? The next step is that I am looking at Onkyo's 805 and 875. Both upconvert, but the 875 says it uses HQV Reon for...
