Need advice on buying plasma, lcd Tvs online

    Guys and gals,

I've been buying stuff online constantly. What is your idea about buying plasma/lcd tVS online. I am not talking about buying from places like Crutchfield, that we all know has very high prices and good customer service.

It would be great if someone could share his/hers online shopping experience.
I don't want to save couple of hundred bucks and then have hard time with the merchant or the product.

    Thank you all

I wouldn't Something like that I'd buy in store. As you mentioned, not worth a couple hundred bucks for the very possible problems IMO.

You can actually save more if you buy online but you aren't getting the same thing. Often you get the commercial version of the plasma vs the consumer model. The differences are typically commercial ones have less connections and no built in tuner or speakers.

If you need a reliable recommendation, let me know via PM. My friend bought one online and the experience was fabulous. The Plasma is a 50" Panasonic and the PQ is stunning.

The main answer is it depends on the etailor.

        Shane Martin, you've got PM.

        Thank you guys,

I thought so. I checked out several omline retailers and it appears that they sell grey market products. Some spec call for SECAM and PAL availability :Z
We all know for sure that all TVs sold in the States are NTSC models, period.

I am not sure if I start a new post or ask you another question here ;x(

What is your oppinion about Plasma vs latest Sony Grand Vega rear-projection unit.

I own 53'' XBR rear-projection unit. It's been in my home since 1997 and works great. Just recently I noticed sone yellow/blue glow around images in the left part of the screen. I think it started happening when I moved my TV set from living room to dining room and back during remodeling of my house.

Are you talking about the Latest LCD or the SXRD 1080P sets? Big difference there.

If it's Plasma vs SXRD, then SXRD is the winner. If its 720P LCD vs Plasma, Plasma easily wins. The PQ differences are astounding if you stick with the major players for plasma(Panasonic, Fujitsu or Pioneer). The others are worse.

checked out several omline retailers and it appears that they sell grey market products
Not entirely true. Some sell commercial and some sell consumer products, some sell both. Some are grey market so you have to be careful.

I am just trying to figure out what set to buy. My existing RP 53'' XBR unit is almost 8 years old. My wife demands full explanation from me why we should get another TV set :-) So I have to plea my case.

Go for the SXRD 1080P set then:

              1. It's smaller - Depth wise
              2. It's 1080P
              3. You can't use HD dvd on the old 53 XBR
              4. You are getting widescreen
