    recommadation from you guys?

this is the first time I am going with front projection and all the choices is making my head spin.

My installer is recommading one of these.

    studio experience HD50
    benq 8700+
    infocus 7200 or 5700

Can you guys give me recommadation on these units or any other that you can recommand in that range?

    Thanks in advance.

oh. and one thing that I should add is it's not going to be in a dedicated room therefore the ambient light will be kinda high sometimes due to the kitchen next to it.

It will be complete dark sometimes, but wife wants to be able to see the screen when she is doing dishes.

also, I am trying to achieve a 100 to 110" screen size. the room is about 17 feet long.

    Thanks again.

I have the InFocus SP 7205. It's a great projector! InFocus offers a calculator online that will help you with the numbers, but I think the minimum recommended distance from front of projector to a 110" screen is just under 14 feet. So you can do it, but it'll be tight. I also demo'd the BenQ 8700 and it is a very nice projector. Don't have any experience with the Studio Experience model.

What screen are you going to use, and can you control your external light sources (aka windows)? These are also very important factors in choosing a projector.

      Good luck!

Yeah, looks like you'll need a bright projector and the 7205 is definitely one of them. I believe the 5700 is also bright. The difference between these two Infocus projectors is that the 7205 is 1280 x 720 ( hi def res) and the 5700 is 1024 x 576. Great for dvds but a little shy on the hi def res side of things. But I use an NEC HT1000 set up at 1024 x 576 and hi def looks pretty darn good on it. You should demo both of these babies because the is a significant price difference between the two models.

the installers came last night to go thru equipment list. decided on the 7205 because of the windows in that room. I will have black out blinds installed. But going with the brightest possible projector just in case.

and after measuring the room. decided on 92" instead of over 100 because of the limit in wall size.

Thanks for all your help. with 2 guys thinking that is a good projector, I feel better about the choice.

oh and this is the screen they're recommanding because with 0.8 something or other( have to do with reflection??). and it is gray.

.08 gain which is good for a bright projector. The low gain, grey screen will give better contrast. Sounds like you are off to a good start. Happy viewing.

got my equipment and the install started. so far, they got the projector installed and working. and some speaker wires installed in the walls for the surround.

But wow that picture is bright. even with the 6 flood lights in the kitchen nx to it on, I can still see the picture well.

gotta wait till nx week when they put in the dedicated power line and hook up everything. will post pics and impressions then.

One observation from yesterday. Da-lite screen is great. however, the mount it came with for mounting it on the walls left me thinking which idiot there designed this thing. first you install two horrizontal strips of aluminum one at top and one at bottom. then you slide the screen on to the top rail. After that, you try to push down on the frame to make the bottom rail snap in.
The mount to me seems like it's not thought out very well.

This is actually a pretty standard technique for a wall mount screen, being relatively simple to install, light weight to ship, and of course, inexpensive.

Also, for most of the screen providers, there are two or more "grades" of wall mount screens, and there is some expected hardware variation due to price.

                                      Peter:

Do you find that the ML Cinema center speaker is too directional?

I'm thinking of purchasing the same but my room is quite large and audience will be somewhat dispursed. I'm just wondering if the ML Theater speaker would be better for an upgrade; my understanding is the sweet spot is wider although I really don't want to spent the extra $ for the Theater model.

                                      Thanks,

ML Cinema is fine for my room. But I would imagine it would have a problem with a larger room. the owners manual sz only 30 degrees horizontal and 15degree verticle dispersion. So the Cinema is very directional. In a larger room I would definitely go with something bigger such as Theater. Especially such an important speaker as the center channel.
