  • New Pioneer Elite FD62 Blu Ray Player

Today, I received my new Pioneer Elite FD62 blu Ray player. The build quality is in fact, very average, as honestly I expected for a retail $400.00 player. It's very lightweight and has a small footprint. Image quality seems pretty good out of the box, I have not done any adjustments. I have watched Knight and Day partially on projector, and partially on my 59" plasma. Both seemed reasonably good. There was some pixelization visible on both displays with this player. Some of this could be this movie's original quality.

In fact, I did watch Ghost Protocol after this film, and experiencned a much better film viewing. Additionally, I watched the first 25% of Avatar, 2D film on my 59" plasma (1080P), and was quite pleased with the presentation the combo played. Detail was good, there wasn't much artifacts in the film, and edging looked clean, clear, and concise. The images of the space ship with the planet in the background were STUNNING. I thought it was 3D at times, I swear.

Load time on the player was very quick for Avatar, I'd say 15-20 seconds was it. Definitely 15 seconds or so to first anti-pirating screen.
Having watched a little more material at this point, I feel better about my 315.00 purchase. In fact, I feel pretty good about it. It's going to be nice to have a player easily hooked up to my 59" plasma, or another player ready for my projector. With another long HDMI cable, I could run it to both. But I do have about enough cables running over the floor. Right... Someday I'll go through floor for cables, but that won't happen until I have a basement house.

    More later.
