As most of us probably know the 6 hour Dune starts on the Sci-fi channel the 3rd of Dec, and it's being reviewed favorably...but here's a tasty tidbit! It's OAR is 1.85...and the DVD release date is being reported as early 2001, after March...anamorphic?

Kenny, I am all over this one like white on rice. I'm hoping that this will be all that the original wasn't. I caught a fifteen minute teaser an I can only say that the special effects are breathtaking. Are they cinema quality? That remains to be seen. Are they better than the original? You bet. It appears that they are going to stick with the original storyline. I will gladly miss the X-files for this one.

It's being reported that the DVD will be the "international" version, footage being removed for commercial breaks will be edited back in!!!
Imagine that...a director's cut for a made for TV movie...too cool.
Also the New York Times is giving this a glowing review.- Bottom

Oh!, I'm sure glad I read the actual thread instead of just the title. All I could think of was "a 6 hr version of that boring movie?"
I'm quite happy it's not that.
I do hope it's a quality production with GOOD acting. The books are of course fantastic. The original movie I thought was a yawner

Thomas, so far that sci-fi channel version been getting some glowing reviews from the New York Post and the Austin Chronicle. Both are usually tough crowds.

Well, there may not be any Atriedes blood in my family, but I'll sign up for this one- there's never enough quality SciFi out there. I'll have to wait for the DVD, since I don't have cable. But it sounds like that's the version to have, you know, with all the R rate bits edited out for TV put back in.
