    Car chase scene

What is the best car chase scene of all time. I have a few I like. The first, Gone in 60 seconds, The blues brothers, alot of the james bond car chases I also like. Well thinking about it, maybe a vehicle of some kind or something else that moves. ;h

The first, best, all-time-great car chase scene is:

    Bullitt - '67 Mustang fast-back and a Charger in San Francisco. OMG 8O 8O

    Others of note are:

Ronin - several to pick from
The Italian Job (2003) - Minis on the loose!
    The Seven-Ups

              The French Connection

If that one doesn't make you car sick, you might have a great future as a stunt driver. :>) If it does make you car sick, you will probably also want to avoid elevated trains (or at least want to stay out from under the tracks where they run.) :>)

Great stuff. I know what i'll be doing this weekend. Watching the chase scenes in these movies. I know I can borrow bullitt, I'll have to rent ronin the french connection, and against all odds.

Hehe, I watched Bullitt last night due entirely to this thread. Wow. And, you know one of the best things about that chase? Steve McQueen (an avid race-qualified driver) did all his own driving - well, except for the one bit of the chase where he spins the 'Stang. His race-trained driving instincts were too strong to allow him to deliberately spin a car, so one of the lead stunt men did that little bit.

                  Tonight? Ronin.

                  :driving:

All I have to say is cool. I'll definitely have to pick this one up, now I know steve did almost all of his own driving stunts. David is the sound track on bullitt in mono? What year did it come out. well I don't think it matters. The movie was before my time. A good chase scene is all that counts.

Justin, Bullitt was released in 1968. Directed by Peter Yates, it's a spare (read: no unecessary dialog), honest (for the time) look at police work and the people involved. The colors are a bit faded due to age, and the soundtrack is Dolby 2.0, but don't let that slow you down.

IMO, you watch this movie for it's cult-film status, it's work by star Steve McQueen, it's glimpses of a young Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Duval, it's (for the time) cool setting of San Francisco, it's jazz music/soundtrack, and above all the chase - oh, that chase.

Here's a photo of the work going on during shooting. After you watch the movie, imagine being the guy lying in the trunk of the Charger! 8O

Wow, Tex, you really nailed it. Sheesh, now you got me wanting to see it tonight. Last time I watched it on my big screen, I felt my stomach heave as the car sped down those SF hilly streets. The camera in the driver's seat really worked.

Burke, The French Connection has gotta be my second choice.

One thing I noticed last night, was how well Peter Yates built the suspense up in the few minutes from Steve spotting the bad guys' car up to the high-speed portion of the chase using only good shot framing, actors' expressions and music.

Well it has been a really busy weekend, going to a wedding and doing the family thing the rest. I did manage to see Ronin. I liked the on going chase scenes. It was an interesting way to describe what ronin meant. I still need to borrow Bullitt. hopefully by this coming weekend I can have bullitt in hand.

                                  Ronin. Excellent movie!

My favorite chase in it is the first one in which the guys are escaping the police after the weapons buy. If I remember correctly, Jacques Villeneuve was on hand and drove the Audi S8 for that sequence. My second favorite is the last chase that runs through the tunnels at one point.

I was sooooo bummed by the CGI tire smoke from the Mercedes after the ambush. . . . Sheesh. Great movie with one obviously cheesy flaw. Oh well.

Deniro was looking alittle tense in the second car chase threw the tunnels and out in the open.

Yes, Bullitt is great. For me I really like the fact that there's no music but the roar of the engines and squealing tires. I also like Ronin a lot.
And To live and Die in LA. Plus the Bond films and quite a few good car chases. amd the Lethal Weapon movies as well.

The Dead Pool was a newer Dirty Harry film that had and interesting car chase where Harry was in an Oldsmobile, and was being chased through San Francisco by a 1963 Corvette radio controlled car loaded with plastic explosives to be a tiny guided car bomb.

Also thinking about car Chases other good ones are:
True Lies, Raising Arizona, Terminator 2, Black Rain, The Rock, Last Action Hero, Die Hard 3, The Hidden, Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, and Mad Max.

The Dead Pool Dirty Harry movie was cool because it was a Dirty Harry movie, but that small electric car. That scene the electric car goes at 40mph or more. Maybe a gas powered RC car would have been more believeable for me. There is some hard work put in to that scene. I would not want to drive a car and drive/control a RC car at high speed at the same time.
