Alright!!! Fox has done a beautiful job with this classic.
This is of coarse the story of Cleopatra and the Roman Empire, but we all know that.
What you may not know is that this transfer is excellent, colors are well saturated, there is alot of red in this movie, and really makes the ol' projector shine. Shadow detail is excellent, and the image is as sharp as your going to get for a 1963 movie. This transfer is right on par with the excellent Ben Hur.
The sound is 5.1, but there doesn't seem to be anything in the rear channels...however the front sound stage is done very well, characters standing off center are panned to that side of the stage, very nice, never over done.
At times the acting is alittle over dramatic, and the dialog can be hokie, and Liz really doesn't quite fit her character until the second half of the movie...actually more like when Harrison's character is gone and Burton becomes the character she's playing off of....gee wonder why that is
A true classic treated right! Thank you Fox.
