The movie is based on the division of India in 1947 and I dont want to put the whole storyline here but I must admit this is one of the best directed and shot movie I have seen based on this theme (as there are many made already).
Determined to leave the ravages of war behind, 38 year old Gian Singh (Jimi Mistry) resigns from the British Indian Army to a quiet village life.
During the events of partition, his world is soon thrown in turmoil when he suddenly finds himself responsible for the life of a 17 year old muslim girl, traumatized by the events that separated her from her family. Slowly, resisting all the taboos, Gian finds himself falling in love with the vulnerable Naseem (Kristin Kreuk) and she shyly responds.
In a moving and epic story, woven into a rich and exotic tapestry, they battle the forces that haunt their innocent love, fighting the odds to survive in a world surrounded by hate.
The movie definitely grips you after the initial few minutes and the locales are extremely picturesque. Must see it. :T
This movie has 2 wins and 7 nominations under various categories and awards.
