    Brokeback Mountain

    Rented it.

Those who know me will cede that I am not someone out to bash a film with these themes and content.

It's a drawn out romance film that tries to stir things up using the image of a rough n'tuff cowboy with homosexuality. Some of the acting was great (Heath Ledger) and some was terrible (Jake Gyllenhaal).

Overall I guess I got bored. I will shamelessly admit that I enjoyed other sappy love stories like "The Notebook", but this simply draaaagggggedd and draaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggged. If you're out for an edgy and depressing love story rent Monster or Boys Don't Cry. This film did squat for me.

    :2: out of :5:

Just didn't interest me. BTW, there was another thread on this over in At The Movies.

I have to admit, also, that I really liked The Notebook.

Nicholas, movie aside (which, as George points out, was being discussed over at "At The Movies") since some folks may be thinking about buying/renting the DVD to check out the movie for themselves if the DVD is well produced, could you share your observations about the disc itself?

Was the menu easy/difficult to navigate? Were you able to avoid /forced to watch a lot of ads and trailers? Was the picture quality excellent/good/poor? (Color balance seemed accurate/off, artifacts non-existent/prevalent, etcetera.) Was the sound enveloping/sonorous but only up front/confined to the center channel/this one's silent?

Please feel free to discuss extras on the disc, too, if applicable. Some people might like those more than the movie -- it's happened before, such as with the Titanic SCE where they showed the ship model sinking without the hammy acting in the foreground or Celine Dion caterwauling in the background. :>)

      Thanks,

      Burke

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
