    The Village

Bought it and watched it at home today to compare with how it was when I saw it in the theaters. This is one of those movies where you either hate it or love it.
First movie in a long time that made me jump. I love the camera angles, and how the focus shifts from foreground to background. A phenomenal job casting. Great soundtrack and effects.
I think some scenes could have been lengthened, and others shortened, but a good movie overall. DVD keep-worthy.

Nicholas, I have seen reviews on this DVD, that state the PQ is very good, and the SQ is excellent.

I have seen also critics have varying opinions, and it is pretty much what you stated, they either think it is really good and really bad (50%). I even read one critic state don't listen to the other critics, this movie is really good  .

I might have to rent this one.

Question, is this a movie you would view multiple times?

    Regards,

    Azeke

I'd definetly rent this one first, because you have to like the shooting style. It holds the same pace as his film Unbreakable. I'm willing to bet blockbuster aficionados that need explosions every 15 seconds will fall asleep on this one. It's a great story about innocence and evil, with a near-perfect casting and soundtrack. Of course you also get the twist at the end, like you do in his other films. I happen to like M. Night Shyamalans style, and found this to be one of his best, second only to the Sixth Sense.

I'll probably return to it a couple times a year, especially around halloween

Not sure about viewing multiple times...definately ONCE. Maybe twice...

I am in agreement with Nicholas on this one. I really like M.Nights movies and this one was no exception to me. Great view....and yes I will watch it a few more times I am sure.

Made me jump a couple times. He REALLY knows how to use sound to make his point.

I missed this one in the theater but got me a rental a week ago, This movie is so good that you just follow the whole story giving you a sense that it will stay that way and kind of freak out when it was about to end, but sure there were signs, but when the encounter between Elizabeth & ...??? and the timing when they open the box, that was the selliing point of the movie. It kind of makes you think after the movie. Wow. Like the part when Elizabeth was in the forest in the chase scene that was awesome if you lean on the bass, that sounded so good.

I am one who not only liked this film but think that it will have a high rewatchability for me. I tend to find multiple layers in MNS movies and the only one that I think has low rewatchability is actually the Sixth Sense. While his other films have twist endings, I feel that the Sixth Sense really has fewer layers than his other films which means once you know the ending, all there is left to do is sit and watch for screw-ups and report them to IMDB

Bought it but haven't watched much of it yet. The early first few minutes made my hair on the back of my neck stand up!

I do love M Nights' Films.

Shane, is this the first time you've seen it or did you catch it in the theaters? If this is your first time, beware that this movie is extremely polarizing. You'll either love it or hate it.

Contrary to what most critics said about this movie, I really enjoyed this one. Even though there were some holes in the plot, they didn't really bother me because the movie made me want to believe the plot. Excellent camera works and memorable images were abound. As far as SQ of the DVD is concerned, DD 5.1 EX sounded really good, almost as good as DTS would have been.

Yeah, the plot was a bit of a stretch, but it was okay. A one time viewer in my case, though.

Saw this one on a trans-oceanic commercial flight. LOVED it! Very, very good use of suspense to tell a story, not just blood and gore. I really enjoyed it, but won't be buying it.

I agree with you George. I saw it last night. The promos are alot scarier than the actual movie. As for the plot, in my opinion, more than just a bit of a stretch.

I watched it this week and I think it's a very good (but not a great) movie. The plot indeed was a bit of a stretch. I liked the acting especialy Elisabeth and the park keeper :B :B (MNS in a cameo).

Funny, I saw it on a transatlantic flight as well as in the movie theater.
I love the movie so much I bought the DVD. Top notch sound quality and one of the best pictures I have seen. Two thoughts (ok, three):
                                    1. 2nd time for J. Phoenix in an M. Night film.
                                    2. Where has William Hurt been? Great actor but I guess fell out of favor with Hollywood?
                                    3. A bit annoying how many times they say, "medicines".

William Hurt's been active. Just can't think of any films off the top of my head.

I thought Ron Howard's daughter did a fantastic job. She has quite the screen presence.

P.S. I had the story figured out about midway. A couple of scenes along the way, I thought the language used by the elders was too contemporary for their time.

I didn't feel a spoiler tag was needed as I didn't feel I said anything specific, but you're the man.

I loved this movie! Watched it for the first time last night.

                                                      M. Night Shyamalan is one of my favorites, if not my favorite. Guy always has great stories.

" I had the story figured out about midway. A couple of scenes along the way, I thought the language used by the elders was too contemporary for their time. "

Yeah, I noticed that too, but wasn't sure exactly what direction he going to go with it.

Another thing that tipped his hand for me, was the outdoor, front porch light, on the right side of the Walkers front door. That light is not an 1800's light fixture.

Then again, I should have known when I spotted Noah wearing a Led Zeppelin T-shirt, in the first 15 minutes of the movie.

I'm just kidding about the Led Zep t-shirt. Orrrrrrrr........am I?
