One Hour Photo - a short review

Oy, a promising premise gone terribly wrong. This film was underdeveloped, and as alluded to before, there are some strange and whacked out plot elements that make me want to go strictly with digital photography to put out to pasture guys like Sy Parrish, the lead character in the film.

The film is a mess, and so jumbled that I can't really find a good thing it does right (besides showing how film developing works in the opening scenes) for a film in its genre. And who pays $10/roll to develop/print a 36-count roll of film?

I give it 2 stars or a grade of C.

Too bad. The trailers on Tv make it appear to be something it obviously isn't -- a creepy thriller.

I will start shortening things up here. And just get to the salient points. But first, let me say this. Up to this point Heavens Gate was the biggest disaster in the history of filmmaking, at least from the perspective of the investors. At $40 million dollars it bankrupted UA studios. Books have been...

I am of two minds on this film. From a cinematic standpoint, the direction is quite good, the acting ranges from very good to outstanding (Oldman deserved all the accolades he received for his portrayal of Churchill). A rousing, even inspirational film on its surface.

      As an historian who...

How much should a student first time film cost?
      by oldbob
In answer to my own question, I would say between $10,000 and $40,000 dollars. It used to be more but digital has drastically lowered the cost while at the same time making it much easier to produce a professional look.

However, this isn’t a story about reasonable. This is the true...
