    Rsp-1570 Hum!!

    Hello all,

I am experiencing a dreaded ground loop hum with my new setup. I have an RSP-1570 connected to a RB-1572. With only the 2 audio interconnects, if I connect my TV via HDMI (Pioneer 60" Plasma) I get the hum out of the speakers. Disconnected, no hum. I have tried all the usual, including different outlets, power cables, power bars/conditioners. I am running a Rotel power conditioner as well, and have tried swapping that out. Nothing helps. An odd thing happens which leads me to believe there is a problem with the processor. As soon as I touch a ground wire to the RSP-1570 chassis, I get the hum, even with no other components connected. I tried daisy chaining a ground wire to the amp and processor and TV all to a common ground, and still have the hum. I out of things to try!

    Any ideas?

I am ready to punt the unit back to Rotel but I know what my dealer is going to say!!

    Thank you.

Keep in mind that anything connected to the TV can also be causing it. Have you tried disconnecting the cable or Sat feed from the TV?

Forgot to add, I do not have any cable or satellite coming into the unit/TV in any way! Completely isolated. Also should add tried a UPS and had the same affect.

Have you connected the TV - you hear hum - then disconnected stuff, like sat box etc, from the TV until it goes away? I doubt its the processor if the hum goes away with nothing connected.

If when you touch the ground wire, you hear hum, its not really grounded but floating - this is probably your problem.

What is connected? You said it is completely isolated. If it is just humming with nothing connected to it then there is something wrong with it. If not try unhooking each component one at a time to see if any of those are causing it.

This may not be relevant, but I get a "hum" on my tuner input (my turntable) while the CD player is powered. Turn off the CDP and no hum...

Yes it is relevant. Next try switching the CD player to a different input and see if that fixes it.

Do you have your turntable hooked into your tuner input using an external phono preamp?

                  yes, I do.

I don't really mind turning off the CD player while listening to albums, but maybe I will try another analog input as long as full bypass is supported - I am not using any bass management for my stereo srouces.

Has anyone tried measuring amplifier distortion?
                    by Saurav
I thought I'd give it a shot with my DIY tube amp. I'm wondering if anyone has tried anything similar, and if there are any tips / tricks / gotchas to doing this.

I decided to use REW, because it's free, and the current version has a 'spectrum' tab that can measure THD+N. Set up the generator...

                    9.1 Phono Hum and upgrade
                    by Punkuk
I have a 9.1 but using the phono input is imposable due to the hum.
I don’t think it is a ground loop as I have:
Disconnected everything but the phono input
Turned off all other power in the house except the power circuit for the Hi Fi
Used an MIT Z-Isolator for the power...

                    Weird ground loop problem
                    by Saurav
Well, weird for me, at least. I got a PE plate amp some time back, and it's hummed from the first day I've hard it. Recently I spent some time trying to narrow it down. Here's what I know so far:

                    * There's no video/cable in the system, and I added power strips and cables so everything...

Ground Loop Hum & Cable Isolator
                    by Club1820
So when I first set up my HT I had a terrible Ground Loop Hum. With the help of this forum I purchased the Jensen Isolator and all things were great. I connected the isolator directly to the cable outlet in the basement/HT and the hum was gone. I even "think" it improved the picture. (?)...
