    1068 Absolute Volume?

    I have a 1068 pre/pro paired with a 1075 amp. For a sub, I have a SVS PB-12/Plus 2

I normally listen at about 58 to 60 on the volume for the 1068. I want to try plugging one or more of the ports on the SVS sub but am concerned with any potential stressing or bottoming out of the sub.

SVS really can't tell me anything without knowing absolute volume numbers, which I don't know.

I don't think I am anywhere near this point with my setup but thought I would throw this out there for comments.

The SVS goes down to 25Hz without any of the port plugs installed and goes to 20 Hz with one plug installed.

Anyone have a similar setup to this?

Did you get a definition about what they meant with absolute volume level? That's a new term for me.

I've bottomed out my SVS's plenty of times. You're not going to damage them with an occasional pop while testing things out. I have to ask, do you feel that you are missing information 20-25hz or do you think the subs should be louder? When you start plugging the ports, you will have to turn the gain up to get the same volume level. You might run out of power and start clipping before you get to the same level, but you should be fine.

I have an SVS sub. I have YET to bottom the thing out...and I crank it. Unless you have the 1068 set to +10db on the sub ouput and the volume on the sub all the way up and listening loudly, you're not going to hurt the sub AT ALL.

All you are doing is changing the tuning of the sub. So instead of it rolling off around 20Hz, it'll roll off around 16Hz. Which at that point, if you are listening to a lot of movies with deep deep bass or pipe organ music, then you might have to worry about it.

It takes a lot to make an SVS bottom out and you'll notice it by hearing a distinct "clack" sound.

Not saying one can't bottom one out...but if set properly and you have a sub that really "fits your room and isn't under sized" then you shouldn't have any problems.

So don't worry about it, just put in the plug, and set the tuning down to 20Hz and re-calibrate your sub. After that you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for the responses, I haven't heard that term (absolute volume) before either, but they did mention starting at some -X Db up to zero or something to that effect, but I don't think it was in relation to the speaker level adjustments but total volume... I'm not sure the 1068 can display the volume in that manner but I could be wrong.

I really didn't know what to listen for when the sub is stressed/bottoming out, so now I know what to listen for but it sounds like I should never get anywhere near that with the current setup or one of the ports plugged. I currently run the SVS at stock or 25 Hz but wanted to ask before trying to lower the filter with the plugs. I really didn't feel I was missing anything, I just wanted to try the lower filters out this out to see if I liked it better.

        Thanks,

What did you have as a sub before the SVS PB-12/Plus 2 or is that your first sub purchase?
What else did you consider before the purchase and what are your main speakers?
What was the deciding factor for the purchase?
This speaker is on my short list to replace the sub I own now. I am also considering the Klipsch RSW-15 and RT 10 and RT12D subs.
I have been at a stalemate over which to purchase and would appreciate your input to help me make the decision.

            805 + SVS sub: Your help/comments please
            by audioqueso
So I just purchased my SVS sub to accompany my Nautilus 805s, the PB12-ISD. This thing is huge. Well, I've been playing around with the placement and settings, but somehow seem a little disappointed. My room size is 18x30, but I have my actual sitting position set up more like 18x20. I have used...

I am getting a SVS sub soon, but just can't decide which one to go for, please advice.

I have MMG as main and MMGw as surround, found out a HSU stf2 is not enough to fill my living hall which is around 20x18x10.

            I listen to 50% movies & 50% music.

Hello. I have a couple of questions regarding the settings for the sub on the 1068 pre/pro.

I currently have my M&K VX-860 250 watt sub volume level set at Reference and also set to bypass its crossover settings in favor of the pre/pro. On the 1068 I have the crossover set...

I have an M&K 860 Sub connected to a Rotel 1068 pre/pro. I am controlling the sub via the 1068 but was wondering where I should have the volume knob turned to on the Sub? I currently have it set to the mid-point between Min & Max volume. Or does it not matter?

            Sub-woofer and eq advice needed

I would like to add a sub-woofer to my system. I have a pair of 802N speakers driven by a Bryston 14B ST. My preamp is a Supratek Sauvignon. This is a music only system.
I read Kal's advice in another post as follows:

            3. Subwoofer. This, indeed, has the potential to give you more...
