I have an older 2ch amp 100wpc Rotel RB-870BX. Would I benefit sound wise if I went to a newer 100wpc amp? I guess what I'm saying, do amps loos their oomph?

    Thanks,

If it is operating fine then I wouldn't replace it. I doubt you'd notice much difference unless you were got a 200W amp.

I have two RB-980BX's that are over 12 years old and get used nearly every day. I have no plans on replacing them any time soon. If it aint broke...........

Only reason to replace them would be for a higher power rating to drive 'thirsty' (low ohm speakers).

Funny you say that "low ohms speakers", I had 4ohm speakers that were much easier to power than my 8ohm.

If you were driving 4 ohm speakers at low to normal listening levels (spl) then you might not be taxing a decent quality amp near its limit. But normally, you will find the amps clipping level much sooner with low impedance speakers.

            Hi Guys,
I have a chance to pick up an older McIntosh MC7106 amp (circa 1992). My setup is B&W CDM7NT's for fronts, CDMCNT ccenter, and CDM1NT's for surrounds.

They are currently amped as follows
            CDM7NT - Krell Kav 250a (250 x 2 Watt)
            CDMCNT - Outlaw M200 (200...

            B&K 305 Bi-Amp ?
            by Dean Mar
Have a B&K AVR305 that I use for 80% music and 20% movies. I have been very happy with the performance on movies, but feel that there is room for improvement on music. Thought about purchasing a separate 2 channel amp for my mains, but don't want to spend the extra money right now.

            Old Rotel amp question
            by Black7
            Hi
I have an older Rotel power amp model RB 870BX - I believe it's from the late 80's. I've had it for a few years and use it to power the fronts on my RSX 972 receiver for 2 channel listening - 100 w x 2.
My quesiton is (for those that know this amp), will it be much of an upgrade...

            804N with Rotel RB1070 & RB991?
            by niggy
            Hi,

I have, lying around, a rotel RB-1070 and an older RB-991 amp.

I have the opportunity to get a used pair of 804Ns at a good price. Was thinking of using these to bi-amp the B&Ws with the 991 taking care of the lower frequencies and the 1070 handling the upper end....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:

Just purchased a pair of b&w cm9 fronts with the matching center. I'll pick up a sub & surrounds in time. Currently I have a Denon 3312 but I still have time to exchange for a different model. Room is 19x16 open floor plan with...
