    Happy Birthday!

I know this message falls completely outside the guidelines* for posting on this forum but I could think of no easier or quicker way to let friends and neighbors know that something special happened lastnight. Many of you will know from public and private discussions that my wife and I were expecting our first child soon, after many many years and tears of trying. Very unexpectantly, he wasn't due for another month - literally March 27, my wife went into labor yesterday morning. Later that evening Brian James Dean entered the world at 7:43 PM. He weighs 7 pounds and 14 ounces and is 19 inches long.

As some of you may also know I have a pretty strong affinity for B&W speakers and this hobby in general but this all seems pale in light of recent events. My heart belongs to someone else now.

*(My appologies in advance to the HTGuide management and staff. Thanks for allowing me to be heard and please manage this thread accordingly.)

      Congratulations.

It won't be long before he's poking his fingers into dad's equipment! Best make sure you have your speaker grilles on by the time he's crawling.

          I'd hope he has about a year before that has to be a factor (;

                    Congratuations!!!!!!

I never thought that fatherhood would be this great. Pour yourself into the experience! Inside, you'll feel things you've never felt before, at least not to this scale.

                              James,

Congratulations on the birth of your son! A mini-Rebelman! Being a father is the greatest experience in the world. All of the hard work and interrupted sleep of being a new parent is balanced out with moments of immeasurable joy.

My 10 month old has been crawling for a couple of months now (she's just about ready to walk) and she is mesmerized by my speakers. I have to pull her little booty away from them about a half dozen times a day. Just a little glance into the future for you.

Soon, B&W and Classe will be taking a back seat to Thomas the Tank Engine and the Wiggles.... have fun!

Maybe an 'invisible fence' is in your future - place around your speakers.

Congrat James... I have to agree, no matter how much you love your B&Ws, there's no way they compare to a child.

Enjoy the many many many sleep lacked nights! It's really worth it. :T

Whew, finally a moment to break away from all of the excitement and post an update.

A very heart felt thanks to everyone for the kind words. All of the tips, head's up, and plain ole' things to keep in mind are much appreciated. I wish I could spend more time dwelling on the thoughtful remarks but unfortunately, the challenges just keep on coming...

Just when we thought the worst was all over after mother and baby were sent home, back to the hospital she goes. Marilyn suffered a pretty traumatic delivery and lost a lot of blood. We knew this when she was originally discharged. We also knew that she would continue to lose blood over the course of four to six weeks. What we didn't know was how severe the loss had already become.

When I took her to the ER last night we discovered that she was anemic and the loss of blood reached a critical situation. She was boarder line for an emergency blood transfusion. This was very scary news because of the risks involved and the fact she is O-Negative which is an uncommon type. Learning this could not have come at a worse time. I was completely drained, exhausted from a total lack of sleep, my head hurt, my eyes hurt, and now my heart was hurting. The possibility of losing my wife at this very delicate time in ours lives would be unbearable. So in spite of all the energy I expended in the last few days, I knew I would have to remain strong for her.

Today they administered two units of blood which should boost her current status and hopefully stabilize her. I will know tomorrow if she will be well enough to come home.

Baby Rebel is doing well. Grandma came down to care for him while I look after my wife. I will post pictures just as soon as I can rest easy knowing that our family will be alright.

Sorry about the problem with the wife. I really feel for you and trust that the negative experience will soon be a thing of the past.

Rebel , I'm very sorry to hear your wife is having a difficult time. Sounds like the docs have it under control , though. Must be tough to balance the concern with the joy of the new arrival. Wishing your wife a speedy recovery and will say a prayer for the added help it may provide. Also looking forward to all the posts about the amazing journey you've begun. :T

You have my best wishes for everything to pull together very positively. One thing is for sure...your lives will never be the same again after this event.

Things have indeed gotten better, in fact much better. My wife came home yesterday and is doing well. It was a bit touch and go for a while as she had a negative reaction to the second unit of blood but the worst is now over.

Although she was discharged having only one unit in her she was doing far better than she was a few days prior. I am very thankful for the people that nursed her back to health and the encouragement from the people here. A special thanks to the moderators for giving life to this thread.
