IMPORTANT: Change your eBay passwords!

eBay reported a large security breach a few days ago. Some personal, non-financial information was compromised including encrypted passwords.

If your password isn't strong, it could be cracked using the encrypted hash and brute force. And if you use the same password on multiple sites, if found it could be used elsewhere. This stresses the importance of using different passwords on each site. I recommend a password manager such as Keepass to keep track of them.

I saw that Kevin. Good tip to let the members know this is highly recommended. What's unbelievable to me is, this occurred quite some time ago, like a month or two and we are just now finding out about it. That's pretty sad that it took this long to let the community know. When I did find out, it wasn't through a mass email notification from ebay, but rather a news article.

I did see a email notification this weekend. I am not sure it was "legitimate". As you know, this presents yet another opportunity for hackers! To fake send a email about change passwords, then have you go to a site you think is ebay, you click and fake log in, then they have your password, even if they weren't the ones that stole it to begin with. Think about it.

Never click a link on an email to go to a web site. Always type it in your browser, so you know you are going to the real web site before doging any logging in.
