Where the richest music nerds go to play: the High End show

This is an article written by Trent Wolbe of the Verge.

Basically it's a two part coverage of a person that doesn't believe Audiophiles exist and is a complete skeptic on the whole subject. In the first part he basically comes from the angle of not believing in HIFI and I'm my regards is the average person when you try to tell them your love and passion for hobby.

You can read the article here:

Where the richest music nerds go to play

By the second day it seems that a real change has happened and there could be something to all this. Amazing that a lossy Mp3 doesn't sound as good as a hi-res 24/192 file. And spending crazy amounts of money on a system can actually move you and make you feel things that a simple iPod cannot.... wow. It's pretty neat to see his transformation between the two days and giving the credit where it's due.

Here's the second part of the article and the change around:

Just some fun reading... and nice to see someone start to see what we all tend to go through here.

I'm reading it now. Enjoyable read. Got a chuckle out of this--he's strong opinioned, that's for sure.

Audioquest asks the age-old question, would you rather send 600 mosquito nets to a Malaria-stricken village or have one very good XLR cable?

Exhibit A: Wild Blue Yonder, a €4,500 1-meter XLR cable (that’s $148.34 per inch for my new-world friends, a rate that sounds more appropriate for a porn star than an audio cable).

Even if it weren’t locked up in a glass case, how good could this thing possibly sound? More importantly, what kind of music would the person who does buy this play through it to make it worth his while? Judging from the demo stations throughout the show, Bach concertos would be at the edgier end of the spectrum — more than likely it’s gonna be Jeff Beck, Michael BublĂ©, or, tragically, Paul “Rhymin’” Simon, the number-one-most-demoed artist at the show, and the most extreme asshole that popular music ever knew.
That last bit has a hyperlink here, which is also an interesting read. No idea on authenticity: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2008/0...-simon-no.html

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
