Happy B-Day Chuck!!! A bit of dating advice. Don't mention the word "date" when first asking girls out, or you may get "I'm open and available to be your friend, but not available to date!" Albeit, this girl had some issues and this was after she had invited me to go to a movie on Saturday night. So, I no longer mention the word date. I just ask if she'd like to go out to eat, or go to a movie or something like that.

Having your birthday on X-mas day must completely suck!!. It becomes basically a non-event and you basically get the same qty of presents as everyone else except one is marked with "Happy Birthday" on it!!.

It really depends where you grow up. As a child, I lived in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that was entirely Jewish and, as a result, I always assumed that the glitter and toys of the season were entirely for me! In addition, I had an aunt and I have a good friend with whom I share this birth date, so it never seemed less of an occasion.

As for the wrapping paper issue, that has never happened as, these days, all family gifts are distinctively wrapped for Chanukah, Christmas or Birthday, as appropriate.

Oh, believe me, the least of the December birthday sins is having Christmas wrapping on the birthday present. The all-time "worst" is that you'll get one present from somebody, and they'll say, "Oh, that counts for BOTH your birthday and Christmas." :roll:

Seemed that it was a better setup for my sister, who got a full set of presents in April, and another full set on Christmas. Us December babies often just get one slightly larger set in December.

Ah, well. Nowadays, birthdays aren't important to me anyway. Now, the "biggest sin" is what we end up doing for my birthday. The day comes around, and the family asks, "what do you want to do?" Typically, I'll say, "ahhh... I just want to sit around in my sweatpants and relax." My family shrieks in horror and says, "oh, NO! We CAN'T do that! It's your BIRTHDAY! We absolutely HAVE to have a big to-do, and go out to dinner, etc..." Then they'll pout and act all hurt if I say I don't want to do that.

So, what ends up happening, is that on my own birthday, we end up doing a whole bunch of stuff that I don't want to do, just to satisfy everyone else. Birthday ends up being what makes others happy, and absolutely no fun for me. That's fine, but can I have just ONE day a year when I get to pick exactly what I want to do?

With my birthday being the day after Christmas, as a kid, I got a lot of "counts for both" presents, including one when I was 7 that came with half the box covered in Christmas wrap, and the other half with birthday wrap. What was even more amazing is that the people who perpetrated this were in the room when I opened it, and couldn't stop congratulating themselves on how clever that was. (At least they gave me something besides just a card or socks.) :>)

As an adult, I don't expect to get gifts either day. It is nice to have both days off from work and enjoy a special meal each day, but Christmas is most fun for kids, and as for birthdays, I'm just glad to have had another year of good health.
