    Need help with Expressvu install

    Hoping this right place,

I recently subscribed to Expressvu the gentleman cam to hook it up and sia he couldn't do it I was facing the wrong way (east). Here's the problem I am on the top floor of a 21 floor building. I have look @ the moment and they installed there dish/antenna and it works fine. There are other ppl on lower floors of this side of the building who have satelite. And on the building next to us there are satelite towers i'm guessing. I have been told by Bell,Expressvu and Sympatico that if you are on the top floor direction makes no difference. Is there anything anyone can suggest to get the guy to hook it up (they are sending a new guy out in about a week or so). He was saying I would some kind of extendted mount or a pole this makes no sense. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

    Thanks all

That's a tough one. Is the extending mount to move the dish away from the side of the building - ie. sticking straight out from the wall - so that you can point the dish at the satellite? Or is it to raise the dish straight up over any obstructions?

Might need to check with the building's super about any restriction they have about mounting stuff on the top of the structure. If it's okay relay that info to the installer

I'm not sure I follow. If there are people on "your side of the Building" whom have installed dishes without any problem why can't the installer mimic the work done down there?

        Q. Where is the LOOK tv satalite dish located? You also said that it (LOOK tv) has been installed no problem. Is it in the way?

          ExpressVU help

He had mentioned the extended mount so it could peak around the corner. he also suggested a pole to go above the top of the building. As for why he couldn't mount it the same way the other person has he really didn't say except that he has no idea how they are getting signal.

look is mounted on the other side of the balcony on the wall. My south wall of the balcony has an edge sticking out ( we are the last apt on this side of the building) would it be possible for him to mount it there and angle the dish to the south west? (this being the south wall of the balcony)

Just trying to get suggestions as from what others have told me in the past the installers get paid just for showing up so alot of the times they don't want to bother with tricky installs simply saying you can't get signal.

As long as you (or the technician) can get the dish to a location where it can point directly at the satellite, you can get a signal. This is commonly referred to as "line of sight". The technician will know where the satellite "sits" with regard to your possible dish locations. Don't let him off easy.

Thanks for the help all. I am going to look at afew places they may have this extended mount as well as was thinking of suggesting he join the expressvu mount with the mount from looks dish/antenna (as I would be cancleing look anyway) and see if that may give him the extension he needs (frankly hoping they send someone differern't and have no hassles.) I spoke with expressvu and they said they put a note on the file to just install it (explained about other dish below top of building satelite tower on building next to me e.t.c.) So here's hoping there are no hassles or can work something out any other tips would be apreciated and thanks again to all who replied.

Well, as I mentioned in the other thread, I'm about to sign up for some sort of Satellite TV service. I've had DirecTV in the past, but since I moved and don't have service in my new house yet, I'm willing to consider Dish Network, and hopefully leverage the two companies against each other in a bidding...
