Looking for a near universal player

I would like to get a modest ($50 - $100) player for my work audio system. I need something that can play redbook CDs and MP3 Cds but it has to support CBR up to 320K and VBR and it must be able to deal with long file names and 700MB Cds. SACD and DVD-A might be nice but isnt essential.

Anyone know of such a beast - thanks

It seems at that budget it would be rather difficult, perhaps you should try audiogon or ebay. Just my $0.02.

    Peace and blessings,

Check out refurbed Samsung HD841s. I bought one in July and love it. I've seen these on eBay. They can be had for under $100.00. Mine was $80 WITH shipping. Does SACD and DVD-A I haven't tried mp-3, though.

        MP3 Pro!
        by SiliGoose
Just downloaded the new version of MusicMatch and found out it supports MP3 Pro. I've been waiting for this format to become more widespread for the past year. Generally I prefer WinAmp but I haven't seen a MP3 Pro plug-in for it yet.

It promises much smaller file sizes with better sound...

My eight-year-old happens to think that CDs are from the "olden- days."

Not surprising, given that in this household, most of the 1,000 or so CDs that I own sit on a shelf, serving as nothing...

        Fix-up mp3 files?
        by storello
I already have a very basic mp3 collection on a PC with Windows Media Edition but I'm not happy with the mp3s in their original form. The most annoying trait is the huge volume difference between my very old CDs (as early as 1984) and current CDs. The Media9 player will automatically adjust the volume...

Sony of Japan abandons copy-control music CDs

TOKYO (AP) - Sony Corp.'s music unit is abandoning its CDs that use built-in technology that limits copying them, after pushing the program for two years.

I'm not sure where else to post this, so I'll try here.

I'm new to "high end" audio, and still at the bottom of it (B&W 700 series + Rotel gear). Surprising what you can hear from nice equipment. Anyway, if I want to compile some of my favorite songs from several CDs onto...
