    Acoustic Rock Recommendations?

I really enjoy listening to these "unplugged" acoustic performances of popular rock bands. I was recently turned onto Godsmack's "The Other Side" CD. I think it's been out for a while. Although it only has seven tracks, they are all really great. Very well recorded by the way. I think it will be one of my demo CDs. Anyway, I've got the Alice in Chains "Unplugged" CD which I also like VERY much.

    Any recommendations from you guys?

If you haven't listened to Days of the New. You need to pick up their first two CDs. They are both called Days of the New (1 and 2), one is Yellow one is Green. The Red one isn't near as good.

But you will definitely love the acoustic guitars, bass, and drums used on these discs. Very accurate, sharp, and clearly detailed sound. The lead singer's voice comes through hauntingly clear where it sounds like he's sitting in front of you while one guitar is on the left, the other is on the right, and the drums are planted firmly straight in front of you behind it all.

I was really surprised by the quality of the discs when I got my new system and CD player. Definitely on my list of demo material since you can hear ever single pluck of the guitar string.

If you don't have these CDs I highly recommend looking into them... Fits perfectly in the acoustic rock category!

I think Alice n' Chains unplugged is absolutely phenomenal.

I'll add Hell Freezes over to the list, an obvious one that seems to have been missed.

Definitely the Nirvana disc! It's almost sacrilege that you don't already own it!

Blind Melon: Nico - Not "unplugged" but has acoustic versions of their songs as well as some awesome covers. Actually their best album IMO which is weird because they released it after the lead singers death...

                  -Pretty much any Bob Dylan
-More on the mellow side but Nick Drake is awesome, another sad story though
-Tragically Hip: Road Apples - good number of acoustic songs as well as a couple good rockers

Heart did a live acoustic album in 1995 called The Road Home.If you do some digging you can find tons of stuff as it was quite trendy for bands to do acoustic sets back in the 90's.If I remember correct even Billy Idol & Steve Stevens did one .I think so did Page & Plant,Kiss and even Poison.Happy hunting. :T

I'd forgotten about The Road Home. I'll have to go dig that one out of the pile and get re-acquainted. Thanks Claude.

Great thread. I have also been looking for some additional acoustic rock recommendations. I have the Alice and Chains, Nirvana and the Eric Clapton Unplugged. The Days of the New and Godsmack suggestions are some that I am definitely going to be picking up. Are there anymore suggestions along these lines.

                        Thanks

not really "rock" per say but the mtv unplugged 10,000 Maniacs is very cool.

Not exactly acoustic rock, but I thought worth mentioning since I looked at what you have in your CD collection....

Rush's - The Spirit of the Radio (1974-1987) is a remastered (well they are remastering almost all of the Rush CDs) and it sounds amazing compared to the old versions of the songs. I just wish they had Villa Strangiato and YYZ on it...that would be good, but I might have to pick up Hemisphere's since it's remastered...

Damnation is a dark, haunting, and atmospheric acoustic proggressive metal album from a proggressive death metal band and is produced by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. (this is their first and probably last non death metal album)

Glad you like the album raider and to think they are a death metal band not exactly what you would associate audiophile with.

Another good suggestion I just picked up the other day is Alanis Morissette's remake of Jagged Little Pill - Acoustic. It sounds really good, her voice comes through much better than I could've ever hoped and the guitars and various other instruments are placed very well throughout the sound stage. I definitely recommend this CD if you liked Jagged Little Pill.

On a side note, she did this as the 10th anniversary of JLP being released and instead of just re-releasing it as a remaster or something, she re-recorded it all acoustic. That right there was enough for me to buy it and support her efforts. You don't see that from a lot of artists, willing to get back with the producers of the album, sit down and (for the most part) re-write the songs again but in a different way (this time acoustically). Definitely gets an 'A' for effort there.

A favorite of mine is "Neil Young Unplugged." Another, is Joan Baez's "Diamonds & Rust", especially the title cut. Enjoy.

                                                      PewterTA,

I am with you on the Alanis Morissette's acoustic CD. I bought it on your recommendation and it is great. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
