Is this cheating?? (because it uses some common parts with my HT system)

Pretty humble compared to many top-notch systems in the thread...

DefTech BP10's (these speakers in different room from HT setup)
    Anthem AVM20 in bypass/direct mode
    Yamaha M80 w/ pure class A mode turned on (30 w/ch)
    Denon DCD-1560 CD player

Oh, when I win the Lottery.........................
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

Upgrades... Don't know really where I would even begin. The big problem is that I live in a small town where it is 75 miles drive to even look at what I would begin to call stereo equipment. If I want to see something remotely high end, it's a 150 mile one-way trip, so there's not a great opportunity for browsing and listening. In-home reviews are cumbersome at best.

I've had the DefTech speakers almost as long as they've been available. I think I would like to try some nice conventional radiating speakers as a comparison now that I've been listening to the bipolar design in both HT and 2-channel for quite some time.

Also, I've had the Yamaha amps forever so I think I would also like to try something different there as well. I think the Yammies are actually pretty good, but it would be interesting to do a comparison with something a bit higher-end just to see (well, actually hear).

well, my system is in a constant state of upgrade.

the newest addition is new main speakers, magnepan tympani 1D's to be exact. just reconditioned, with new bass, midrange, and tweeter panels, with new socks. getting them tomorrow, but since all my speaker cables use bananas, i need to upgrade the binding posts, thankfully i have a box of these sitting around:

              hooray!

thats a picture of the speaker, but not at my house.

the stuff isnt mine. i forgot what the odd-shaped speakers were. but they are just a basic MTM using dynaudio drivers. i didnt listen to them.

It's not too complicated and I am very pleased with the sound.

With the R&D that Sony put into designing the chassis and isolation for this player I decided not to screw with it.

those are DIY "room lenses" they help to reduce some of the room effects through a combination of diffusion and diffraction(and to a much lesser extent a hemholtz resonator effect) if you search around there are many reviews of both the commercial and DIY types

Klipsch "Klipschorn" Corner Horn Speaker Systems 104db/w/m
Just this week, there was an ad for some La Scala's in my local paper for $750 or best offer. The ad described them as being in remarkable condition cosmetically and sonically. I was sorely tempted. I can still recall how these speakers sent chills up my spine the first time I heard them in the early '70's. They're a step down from the Klipschorns, but still great, great speakers. Unfortunately, my wife, while not nixing the deal, reacted with an "ugh" when I showed her a picture at a Klipsch site. That was enough for me. She's been more than fair with all my audio purchases and I wanted to return the favor.

Still, they would have been sweet and a great choice for venturing into the tube amp arena.

Very nice system Citizen Kane. I have (or rather had) bouncy wood floors too. I have access to the supporting structure below the floor, so what I did was strategically place several steel floor jacks under the main beam running the length of the floor. That helped greatly in stiffening up the floor. With regard to your 3 year old son, know that you're not alone in your misery :B. I have a 2-year old grandson in the house who loves to play with the knobs and buttons on my system components. To him, "don't touch" means touch even more. I am seriously thinking of building a removeable door for the front of my equipment rack to keep those naughty little fingers away.

I like the steel floor jack idea, the tenant below might object though. At the moment I have the speakers on thickish marble blocks which helps some. I have a long way to go though before it's "perfect". David, I had my doubts about these 'Labs, however after a few 100 hours cooking they are just exquisite. Now about those amps...

I have a combined 2-channel and HT system centered around the 2-channel system.

I'm a 90/10% Music/HT enthusiast, so 2-channel music is more important to me and where I focus most of my efforts.

I spent a lot of time (1 year) auditioning before selecting my Dynaudio Contour 2.8 main speakers (towers). These 2-way speakers use the Dynaudio Confidence series tweeter and were the best sounding speakers I had ever heard. In the last 5 years I have not heard anything new that I would want to replace them with.

My complete setup is listed here

                                                            Hi Guys,

                                                            Room treatment:

We live in a loft I reno'd in a commercial century building. The 2 channel room was built (by a couple of handy friends and yours truely after much personal research on the subject. Many thanks are owed to "The Master Handbook of Acoustics", a freakin' wealth of info! Its not super big at approx. 20.5X14x11' but it has great dimensions. All walls are actually room within a room drywall over plywood construction with Roxul between the walls. HVAC comes in through an insulated labrinth. This room is very quiet. DIY tube traps live in the corners with DIY abfusers(these work freakin' brilliantly!) on all first reflection points on walls and ceiling. A way thick wool carpet and underpad covers most of the hardwood floor. I'm running two dedicated circuits off the breaker box for this room. Ya know what? This room had a greater positive effect on sound quality/enjoyment/musical involvement than buyin' 50K worth of new "Golden Ear/Class A" gear baby. And it cost a whole lot less.

                                                            Happy Trails!

                                                                Hello every one
I am a hometheater guy who graduated to 2 channel

I use my pioneer dv-47ai as a cd player until I get enough for a better one.

I like it alot. For hometheater add a JM Labs SW900, JM Labs electra cc-901 center and some polk surrounds and a bryston 5b-ST and I am in heaven. It just sounds so good to me.

I invested in LARGER TUBE AMPS! I got 100 watt tube monoblocks. Here is a picture.

One of these is almost twice as deep as the Cayin I was using. It is safe to say that these are 3 times the size of the Cayin. What a difference in sound it makes!!! I am loving it.

Another upgrade. I am changing my twin SVS 16/46pc's to SVS 16/46pc pluses! Those will be here in a week.

Oh, and another upgrade for home theater (since my two channel rig is incorporated with my theater rig), I just bought a Martin Logan Cinema to change out my Energy Veritas center and I am going to sell my Energy Veritas dipole rears after I intall 4 KEF dipole inwalls! Man, a lot of upgrades this past month or so.

i also threw in a couple of pics of the figures i've got on top of the tv unit. i love movie stuff which is why i have them.

In the end (although it never ends, does it?), I have a pretty nice 2-channel setup within the multichannel. Here goes:

                                                                      *McCormack DNA-500 amp

I'll post a pic or two once I get a new rack. After shredding the back of our wall unit/bookcase for the components, I now have too many to fit in there comfortably. Any great suggestions out there for a vertical rack to fit 4-5 components with a TT on top?

BTW Fraise, the Edward Scissorhands is excellent!
