    1000W tube amp

I admit I don't know much about tube amps, but perusing engadget this morning I saw this and thought it looked like a pretty crazy build. Figured it was worth reposting here. Enjoy!

        Tubes? Yeah, we like tubes.

A couple weeks ago, we (PewterTA & I) got to listen to the Carver Silver 7's at our local shop, Vintage HiFi of Pittsburgh. The red amps are the new Carver VTA 305 monoblocks.

The last photo shows the shop's working vintage "Tube Tester" which those of us 'seasoned' enough remember seeing at every local drug & hardware store when we were kids.

            That's quite an amp build!

I used to have a pair of these monoblocks -I believe they were 220 WPC. Heavy and would get HOT!

The 807 is originally a transmitting tube. The cap on top of the tube is the plate connection. I hope he puts that 1000 watter in a cabinet considering all the exposed high voltage
On the subject of power, you don't necessarily need a lot of power. I did a restoration for movie projection in an old 2000 seat movie palace a few years ago. The sound was a 50 watt amp driving a Voice of the Theater speaker with two 15 inch woofers and a large horn on top. You could rattle the place with bass and blast everyone out when it was turned up.

Crazy idea time. I'm stealing this from a post at the PE Forum by Spasticteapot. He wondered about using steel tube for enclosures. I'm not sure if he did anything with it, because he had problems getting tube steel. I'm a structural engineer - I don't have problems getting tube steel. So, today I picked...

After in-home demos of the Jolida and Cary tube ouput cd players and hi-fi shop demos of the Shanling and Musical Fidelity tube output cd players, I opted for an Arcam CD36 solid state player for my system cd player upgrade.

Initially, I was very enamored with the warm sound and centered...
