What components do I need for valve sound?

    G'day,

I have an all Rotel steup: RSP-1068 pre/pro, RCD1072 CD player, RB-1090 2x380w amp. But experimenting with different speakers has shown me that while the Rotel gear is very good at that solid state sound, I'm not really fond of the solid state sound anymore. Replacing my amps with a cheap nOhr SE9 valve amp produced a noticeable change in sound (the additional lushness and wider soundstage), one that I want to pursue further.

So I'm keen to wander down the valve path, but I'm not sure which components need replacing. Which component (CD player, pre-amp, or power amp) is mostly responsible for the "valve sound"? Can I get by with replacing my CD player with a valve CD player (such as a Shanling CD-T80) ? Or just the pre-amp (such as the Supratek Chardonnay)? Or the power amp? Or some combination of the above?

However, as much as I like the valve's lushness and soundstage, I did notice the bloominess of the bottom-end. So I don't know if a valve power amp is the correct solution. I should also point out that my speakers are currently 3 ohm, and my next speakers maybe 2 ohm, so grunty amps are required.

So: what should I be looking at?

I have an Onkyo "universal" player (DVCP-802) that I really like in terms of build quality and functionality, but I've been wondering if sending it over to a company like "The Upgrade Company" for modifications to the power supply and certain other internal "upgrades" (presumably...

Need a new BD player with streaming (Amazon Prime, Hulu etc). and component video

Although my 9 year old Sony BDP-S570 still works flawlessly, it's obsolete... as in more and more streaming services don't work on it. Amazon Prime Video is scheduled to end support for my player in late September. It also doesn't support Hulu at all, and with the Orville moving there for season 3,...

    DVD Player for my situation?

Hi, I bought my very first HT system before I even knew so many audio companies existed. Needless to say, I had to buy what I could hear locally, with the exception of my speakers which I bought blind.

Now, I have made a few changes since and these are continuing. What I have is a...

This is my first post here - so nice to meet you all and thanks in advance for your replies.

I am in the process of finally returning to my audiophile roots (the kids are old enough to trust to not trash my gear).

I have a Linn Axis turntable the Rega...

Is an xo tuned for valve amp or SS amp?
    by tcpip
I was thinking about this, though it seems pretty obvious from my simple understanding of physics. Does an xo have to be "designed for valve amps" versus "designed for SS amps"?

As far as I can see, the answer is "yes". The two xo's will be different. The...
