    Classe cp800 bass management

Just purchased a sub to use in a 2:1 system.

Anyone done the same and can offer me any tips on bass management?

    Thanks

Find out where the bass 'spike' is (Standing wave) is in your room and tame it. Makes a HUGE difference in bass performance.

I take it I need some specialist equipment to identify this.

      Thanks

You will need a bass test disc (I can send you a copy if you need one) AND AN SPL meter to measure the DB levels. You plot a bass graph and when the test disc is done, you will easily see where your room spike is (Normally between 40-60 HZ or so). If your sub allows equalization, you simply equalize that particular Freq down so that the bass smooths out and rolls nicely. :T

Thanks for that, but I have a Panasonic bdt 500 which does not emit a sub test tone.

I have set music up by ear and sounds good but I think the bluray is going to be more problematic until I add a processor.

The BD unit does not have to emit the test tone. The CD emits the tone and you only need measure it with the SPL meter and plot the graph.

That's what I would have thought, but on my test disc all the speakers emit pink noise but the sub is silent. Definitely connected as the sub responds when I play movies.
                  I will try another disc.

                  Thanks

When discrete, then the sub will only respond to the LFE channel.

My test disc does NOT create pink noise, it creates low frequencies, starting at 100hz and then down in increments down to 20hz (it's fun to hear 20hz!!). When you start to get to where your standing waves are in your room, the db measurements become louder and as you plot the graph, you can see where the spike in bass is. It's very easy and very accurate with a SPL meter. So let's say your spike is 40-50 hz, you simply EQ the sub to lower that frequency range and then the bass becomes very much less boomy and very nice and tight.

Unfortunately I do not know what you mean by this.

I have tried another disc and the sub output is silent.
I am connected fom the bluray player to the cp800 by coax and the sub responds normally to low frequency when playing a disc
